May 31, 2009 Clear yellow color with no head. Much more malty and caramely than what I am used to in my double IPAs. Oh and man is that a creepy ass label. This may be old, the hops are totally dead here. The aroma is very faint and mostly sweet tones with a tinge of alcohol. Resiny piny hop flavor and bitter finish but again, feel like they - the hops - are a bit muted. I need to give this one another try and when it is fresh. As it is now, it is a sugary sweet caramel malt bomb.

May 31, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Clean, spicy aroma features pepper and paprika scents. Yeastier smell than I expected given its relatively clear appearance. Apple juice and white grape juice scents. Pleasant and appetizing aroma. Pours an effervescent, mostly clear but slightly hazy bright gold with a small amount of short-lasting, light-cream-colored head. Effervescent. Limited lacing. Hoppy and dry yet juicy taste features a honey flavor. Sweet and juicy with a spicy, dry, hoppy kick. Tasty but not particularly complex. Medium body. Oily and quite lively in the palate. Good but not great and not outstanding within the style, which is one of my favorites.

May 31, 2009 Enjoyed from a 12oz bottle in a brandy snifter. Pours the color of orange marmalade, a nice light gold, with a small white head. The nose isn’t as strong as I would have expected, but pretty good all the same. I got notes of citrusy hops (seemingly several different varieties, without one standing out in particular). As I drink more of the beer, notes of crystal malt seem to come though, as well.
The palate is very good, if not outstanding. Lots of resiny hop flavor, along with enough of an ending malt backbone to keep the sample from simply being hop liquid. The bitterness is very smooth, and is present throughout. The finish is not super dry, but is certainly dry enough to make the beer easily quaffable. Overall, a really nice effort that covers all of the essential Double IPA aspects remarkably well.

May 29, 2009 Bottle: Pours a cloudy golden-orange with a thin white head that diminishes rather quickly. Hoppy aroma has hints of tropical fruits, pine and caramel. Flavor has a malty sweetness with a bitter pine finish. Medium body is very complex and well balanced. Refreshing.

Aroma: Mostly lemony, some pine, other citrus fruits mixed in, a bit of caramel
Appearance: Nice dark gold color
Flavor: A nice hop bitterness and some sweet malts for balance, long lasting and relatively complex flavor
Palate: A pretty strong mothfeel to this one, lots of body, a little thick
Overall Impression:
I thought this one was a pretty nice, maybe a drop too heavy/thick for a IIPA, but that’s just me nit picking at a very solid beer.

May 28, 2009 Pour was bright yellow, like a golden pilsner, equipped with a white frothy head. A million little floaties are in suspension in the thick syrupy brew. The aroma is some caramel and a lot of citrus floor cleaner. The flavor is a mixture of grapefruit and pine with a touch of lemon. Really sweet and really, really thick...a little too much for my liking, actually. Only a pretty high level of bitterness makes this drinkable. It’s ok, but a little disappointing given the high average rating and my general respect for the brewer.

May 27, 2009 Golden-orange pour producing stringy lacing and a medium sized, lasting white head. Bitter and sticky with a juicy mouth feel. There’s a very heavy malt body and a lingering bite. Smells of grapefruit and pine, but there’s also some welcoming aromas of peaches, pears, cereal and sugar cookies. Citrus flavor with a heavy pine/spruce taste. Thick doughy malts that provide a nice nuttiness. It’s very floral with a bitter sweetness. Malty, hoppy and deliciously drinkable but at the price it didn’t seem to stand out compared to many other alternatives.
