Pours thick, jet black color with a thick, oily dark tan head. Nice coffee heavy aroma, oak and vanilla also present. Very complex array of flavors, espresso, tobacco, chocolate with a nice hop balance. Velvety smooth body, roasted and dry. Excellent beer.

12 oz. Pitch with a small, lasting oil slick of fine bubbles. Aroma is espresso, light caramel, cocoa and char. Tastes of espresso, prickly mesquite/hickory char, caramel, chocolate, orange, light whiskey, vanilla, cured tobacco, oats and more. Heavy body is super smooth, tongue-tingly and roasty-dry. Dangerous.

12oz bottle thanks to vwcraig. Dark black with an especially dark brown head. Smells like roasty thick stout goodness. It tastes like your standard regular imperial stout. This was good but nothing really jumped out at me to make this beer special. Oh well. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 02-17-2009 21:40:29

Black pour with a thick, dense, creamy, oily brown head that fades into an everlasting film of bubbles and a frothy lace. Aroma has dark chocolate and licorice. Flavor is full bodied but understated, dry, led by licorice and horehound, with a little bit of dark fruit in there, and then a chocolate finish. Highly viscous and smooth palate, one could be forgiven for spooning it out of the glass.

Founders needs to come here already. Another winner. Pours a deep black, aroma is of your typical RIS, not necessarily a bad thing. Flavor is where this one is set apart with coffee and some other flavors I can’t identify. Full bodied. I really like this one.

Pours completely black, forming a one finger brownish foamy head. Aroma of milk chocolates, roasted malts, hops, and toffee tones. Flavour was of much of the same, rather smooth, hops have a lovely character in this beer, chocolates and coffee balance out this tremendous brew. Alcohol is well hidden, this beer is to be cherished. Bought at Priscella’s in MHC.

I’m surprised I haven’t seen available in more Illinois stores. Pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma of chocolate and coffee. Good malt flavor, just a touch of hops and coffee, and a lot of chocolate. Incredibly smooth. Good stuff.
