Caramel head lacing around the top of the beer. Oily and almost a little bitter finish to the initial taste. No alcohol is found, hidden under all the coffee and thick rich chocolate. Would love to have a few bottles of this. Great. BOLTZ7555 (1098), Phoenix, Arizona, USA

This beer undoubtedly brought out the savage in me. Pours a black past midnight, visually the equivalent of crude oil with only a paper-thin khaki head. Robust flavor and aroma; both carrying rich belgian chocolate, roasted kona coffee, toffee and caramel. The alcohol is hidden extremely well by the juggling of flavors. UGH!!! | 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Mar 4, 2008 Updated: Jun 7, 2008On Tap @ Rich O’s Publick House (Probably a little vintage, maybe ’06 or ’07?) as part of their Gravity Head Festival. I have been waiting to try this since I visited Founders last year. Let it be known that it did not disappoint, actually I have never been disappointed with any of Founders’ brews. Oily black/brown with a nice, but small tan head. Aroma was of chocolate, malt, coffee, and definite caramel. Taste was much the same, very well balanced and no alcoholic bite at all - very nicely disguised. A slight bitter hoppiness in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel was actually a bit thinner than I expected - but still medium thick-bodied. Excellent. KAggie97 (2462), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Feb 26, 2008 Bottle at the second Doubletree tasting, provided by theisti. Thanks! Pours a sans light black with an olive green head and an aroma of coffee, bourbon, and chocolate. Flavor is creamy, thick chocolate coffee and brownee. Feels like chunky brownee batter on the tongue. Utterly fantastic. MUST HAVE MORE. alobar (1020), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma of bready caramel malt, dark chocolate, light vinous elements, boozey fruits, and some roastiness. Flavors were similar, chocolate, roasted caramel malt, boozey dark fruits. Thick body, bready/bittersweet/roasty with a roasty/bittersweet/light vinous finish. Age has been good to this one. BlackForestCO (827), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 21, 2008 05 bottle thanks to drewbeerme. Poured a thick black color with a moderate tan head that diminished to a ring. Aroma of chocolate, some roastiness, and a hint of caramel. Smooth chocolate malt entry, caramel, and hints of spice and slight fruity undertones. Smooth, a little alcohol detectable, but it doesn’t detract from the beer. Really nice, thanks Drew. wetherel (1628), Encinitas, California, USA
