Commercial Description:
A fine companion to end a meal or relax in front of the hearth with, this robust ale will cellar well for years. Brewed with ten varieties of malted barley this stout is extremely smooth, complex and rich in body. We recommend serving at cellar temperature. Sit back and enjoy its richness and complexity, you're about to drink the ultimate winter warmer.

Nice black pour with thin tan head. Not to thick, but thick enough to coat the tongue. Nice smooth flavor with chocolate, roasted malt, slight hop bitterness. Finishes slightly bitter with sweet malty back. Excellent. On tap at brewpub.

On tap at the brewpub: Pours darks as night with a very small head. Aroma of chocolate and slight coffee. Full palate with slight flavor of chocolate and coffee. Hard to notice the alcohol; it is very well hidden. One of the best Imp stouts that I have had.

Pours a nearly impenetrable black body with the faintest possible mahogany edge. A small, foamy, chocolate brown head disappears completely and leaves virtually no lacing behind. The aroma shows big time chocolate, cocoa, caramel, anise and vanilla. Dark fruits, and some dry, charred oak notes are present as well. The flavor is full and rich, with melted dark chocolate and sweet caramel meeting big roasty notes and burnt, oaky vanilla. Anise plays a major role, imparting its signature earthy spiciness that works so well with chocolate. The mouthfeel is nearly full, smooth, and silky. I was a bit turned off, however, by a slimy protein globule that I found on a big sip. Finishes roasty and toasted, with a bit of chocolate sweetness. Solid imperial stout for sure.

On draft at Founders. Pours damn near black. Smell is chocolate, some coffee, but plenty of dark malts. This tastes incredible. This was my highlight of the night. Full, creamy and luxurious on the mouthfeel. A really decadent imperial stout. This is one of my favorite Impy’s. Can’t wait for bottles of this to be available again!

Had this on tap at the brewery. Poured Jet black into a snifter. Tiny bit of head on top. Smelled inviting, some roast, as well as a bit of fruitiness. Taste was big and smooth, roasty, chocolate with a little bit of fruitiness in there as well, but not in a bad way. Nice kick on the finish. This wasn’t super complex or intense, but very good nonetheless. Re-rate: bottle again. Finally. haven’t had this in awhile. Smells nice, nothing over the top. Taste was very smooth, some obvious hops on the end. A very well balanced and enjoyable Imperial stout.

I would like my coffee black with hints of alcohol please. That’s what this stout is for the most part. I did however tasted more hops than I would of like to but it was quite satisfying. Another brew that I would like to see in bottles next winter.

On tap at Founders. There were aromas of coffee beans and chocolate. In the mouth it was powerful with a slightly bitter finish from the hops. Overall this was quite nice an powerful but did not have the complexity and balance of the KBS. I would love to have a few bottles of this to age.
