| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 19, 2007 On tap at the brewery. Dark black color with creamy head. Rich malty coffee aroma. Not overpowering the way many imperials are, but still a lot of flavor. Strong tones of coffee and moderately bitter hops blend with the lightly sweet malt character. Some moderate roasted flavors and hints of chocolate. Very good. EithCubes (2151), Indiana, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 15, 2007 Bottle. Powerful aroma of thick roast and deep dark chocolate. Dry and slightly salty, but mostly roasty. Splash of cream. Motor oil / pitch black with a dark brown lacing head. Strong roast taste, brutally dry and lightly salty with burned notes and a thicky, syrupy body. Silken mouthfeel. Chocolate still strong but has taken a step back to stand beside the cream, which lingers long. Dry creamy aftertaste, and roast notes all over the place. A lot of firmth, if I may coin the word, with the alcohol lurking always in the background but not establishing itself until after about 4 oz. Very dark, slightly tart fruit buried underneath all the layers of malt, cherry with a touch of vanilla and broad plum. A strong one and a good one; not multifaceted in the extreme, but has a trait uncommon to many impies - I can finish the whole bottle and immediately want another! toncatcher (228), Santee - SAN DIEGO, California, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 20, 2007 Incredibly dark and thick. Taste: strong roasted malts, coffee, ends very bitter and roasted. Full bodied and creamy. Not as sweet as many imperials, more roasted, alcohol is slightly present, but not overpowering.
