| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 31, 2009 Poured pitch black with a brown head (pint glass) - head remained a good number of minutes...smells like thick homebrew burnt and heavy. Sweeter than I anticipated...I think of stouts as dry, but maybe that’s the ’imperial’ shining through? Nonetheless, smooth going down without betraying the abv...an oily mouth feel lingers, but not too long - a mighty nice new year’s brew...no discernible hops to speak of which is a good thing - but a hint of bitterness in the after taste too.... ruskiimperial (81), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Dec 31, 2009 Poured into a snifter glass at cellar temp. Poured a very dark black, with a thin tan head. Aroma has a mixture of coffee and pine. Taste has a nice mixture of dark chocolate, coffee and spicey hops all wrapped up with a very creamy and smooth palate. All of the flavors balance each other very nicely, though the coffee does stick around more on the aftertaste. The balance and mouthfeel is what really distinguishes this beer from many of its contemporaries. deyholla (778), Bloomington, Indiana, USA

The aroma is very nice with fresh plums and vanilla, The body is thick and slightly oily. There isn’t much liveliness; the beer comes across as slighly flat. The taste is quite nice though. Notes of oak, alcohol, salad oil and coffee. The finish is slightly bitter and surprisingly light. NayTron (48), Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA
