MxPx1484 (13), USA May 19, 2009 This is delicious! So many flavors, nice and roasty. You can really taste the vanilla. A man’s man’s beer ketchepillar (475), Viña del Mar, Chile May 16, 2009 12oz bottle received in trade 8/2008. A very aggressive beer. The bourbon is not very pronounced-no alcohol heat. Great finish-lingering coffee with some rich chocolate. Slightly chalky, but in a good way-makes it seem drier. As it warms, there is more and more vinous character-not good. Carbonation is too low-almost completely flat. The chocolate and are really good in this, and they go well with some malt roast. hillfiiiiire (283), Madison, Wisconsin, USA May 16, 2009 Dark pour with a tan head. Aroma is burnt vanilla and molasses and chocolate. Flavor is bitter chocolate and bourbon, but not overpowering, but the flavor certainly is strong. Nice rounded mouthfeel. Good beer, but definitely doesn’t set itself apart from other barrel aged imperial stouts though. crowderm (275), Recklinghausen, Germany May 16, 2009 Thick black pour with a tan head. Aroma of wood, bourbon, vanilla, smoke and chocolate. The flavor on this beer is really intense. Bourbon, roast and wood up front followed by a lingering bitter chocolate finish. Nice full mouthfeel. Good beer. ksurkin (355), Norfolk, Virginia, USA May 15, 2009 12oz bottle from bruisin’ ales, 2009 release. pours a beautiful, oily, slick black with a thin, chocolate brown head. aroma is outstanding with big notes of fine bourbon, dark roasted coffee, bitter chocolate, vanilla, and smoked wood. damn this smells great. flavor is one of those "my goodness" moments when words are hard to come by to describe how wonderful this brew is. huge roast coffee notes up front, with oaked bourbon and vanilla blending in seamlessly, followed by dark, bitter chocolate, and hints of dark red fruits and roasted nuts rounding out the sip. finishes with a semi-sweet hit of chocolate, coffee, and lovely bourbon. palate is silky smooth, full bodied, and simply a pleasure to drink. overall, nothing short of perfect. BgThang (118), Texas, USA May 14, 2009 WOW. this beer pours black and coats the glass like coffee that has been sitting on the stove all day and almost is sludge. The flavors on this are an explosion of greatness that one is fortunate to experience. Coffee, choloate, caramel, roasty toffee. Damn this is good
Beerapprentice (111), Hopatcong, New Jersey, USA May 13, 2009 Smells of bourbon, first and foremost; chocolate, vanilla, and coffee. Prevalent taste of bourbon, malts, chocolate, and coffee with light carbonation. Rich dark brown colour with slight, quickly disappearing light brown head. Excellent, flavorful bourbon stout. cgarvieuk (4159), Edinburgh, Scotland May 13, 2009 Bottle at home with Tom and Royce ... smokey woody nose ... again i get the Bourbon ... lots of woodness and a little smokeyness ... coffee and vanilla as expected... good balance... but just not quite there for me ...3.5
