Commercial Description:
A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

2009 Bottle shared with my roommate. Pours to a greasy, slimy, mess of black. Nose is bourbon, coffee and chocolate. Very strong (less chewy than I expected), and equally complex. Upon taste, you experience coffee, carmel, chocolate, nut, raisin, malts, oak, cream, and - of course - bourbon. Do what you can to get ahold of this one.

2009 Bottle. Whoa, serious change from previous vintages. The Aroma of coffee dominates everything. Espresso on steroids with some melty milk chocolate dropped in. The body pours black as night with a dark brown creamy head. The intense coffee flavor really perks up my nose and opens my senses during eat sip. The body is heavy and rich with thich sweet malts, chocolate and heavy rich coffee. I am getting much less barrel than in years past but there is still that almost sour wood funk lying way in the background. I love this beer. Hate the new label though... oh well.

Pours motor oil pitch black; thin tan head. Potent coffee bean aroma, just a shade of bourbony sweetness also; wood and perhaps licorice. Flavor - rich, bitter, roasted, awesome bourbon sweetness. Smooth but also aggressive. Hint of whiskyish burn in the finish. Body is surprisingly far from thick. This is what regular breakfast stout wants to be. As delicious as Peche Mortel but with added complexity from the bourbon finishing. Very excellent. I’m very curious if previous years’ batches were even better with the vanilla.

Bottle - Pours jet black with a very small bubbly tan head. The aroma is a blast of coffee with a little bourbon burn The taste is really where this brew shines, with a strong coffee flavor up front, with vanilla and butterscotch flavors balancing it out a bit. The finish is a lot of roast with a bit of hop bite and a nice warming alcohol. Feels medium to medium-full bodied and a little oily. Just a fantastic brew.

Deep black pour with brown head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, and slight bourbon. No single aroma is overbearing- nice blend of all. Taste is complex- smooth roasted malt, bourbon, dryness, more bourbon, with the stout flavor charecteristics running throughout. I was afraid that this beer would not live up to the hype- I am glad to be wrong. I love bourbon, I love stout, I am happy. The head dissapated after several sips, but left a noticeable lace.

Tap at Sunset Grille. Aroma of smooth bourbon melding with lots of milk chocolate, cocoa powder, lightly roasted coffee. Flavor again a wonderful melding of the bourbon and the expected notes from the stout and the coffee. Impressed me a lot more than I expected.

Pitch black with a quickly receding mocha head. Aroma of oak, vanilla, light smoke, and coffee. Tastes of bourbon, vanilla, coffee, red wine, pepper and spice. Mouthfeel is heavy with soft carbonation and noticeable alcohol.
