Commercial Description:
A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

12 oz bottle-pours a thin dark brown head and used oil black color. Aroma is lots of ash, wood, chocolate/coffee, then some bourbon as it warms. Taste is lots of ash, wood, chocolate/coffee, then some bourbon as it warms, some earthy biting hops. Full, slightly syrupy body. Sipping, occasional as its nice but not my style. Thanks jwc215 for sharing this.

To me this one just isnt as good as the original.Good, but the bourbon is almost overpowering. This bottle has sat for about 4 months, but it must not have been long enough. Good stuff nonetheless, with flavors of coffee chocolate bourbon and vanilla. Some definite woodsy oak flavor in there as well.

12 oz. bottle. Originally sampled this at the World Beer Festival with alexanderj and kleyland back in 2007. Glad to finally get a proper rating. Dark black pour with a thin, light tan head. Small amount of lacing. Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, bourbon, and vanilla. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Flavor is really nice and balanced. The roasted malts, coffee, and bourbon notes blend together perfectly. Finish is charred oak, with a nice boozy hint. Really nice beer for a cold evening.

Had this both on draft at the Founder’s Brew Pub at the release party and picked up my alloted 2 cases while there. If you are a big bourbon stout fan this one’s for you. This is a totally different beer than the regular breakfast stout from Founder’s ( one of my favorite craft brewer’s). Bourbon is very present both in the nose and taste with a heavy coffee taste mixed in as well. Just go ahead and throw a shot of bourbon in a cup of day old cold coffee and you get the picture! I personally like the regular Breakfast Stout from Founder’s better but that’s my personal taste. Try them both and make up your own mind ..Thy are both worth seeking out!

Bottle. Deep black pour. First sip is like taking a sip of bourbon on the rocks after it has been slightly watered down. Yum. Dark roasted malts, hints of vanilla, cacao, and french roasted coffee. Thick bodied, chewy on the palate. Finish is dry and a bit sticky oak flavor. This is how a bourbon barrel beer should be done!

Pours an intense black brown with dark tan head. Aroma is roasted malts with a sweet vanilla extract and brown sugar. Flavor is of a rich, smooth espresso with roasted malts with a shot of bourbon mixed with vanilla bean. Body is creamy and thick with light carbonation. A very very smooth stout and very well done.

Blackest pour ever. Nice old timey label. Aroma of cereal, bourbon, and coffee. Potent and complex taste, dominated by coffee. The different flavors blend together well. Bourbon, sugar, coffee, and grains. A powerful and flavorful brew that earns its very high rating.

2008 Bottle - First beer of the new year (and for breakfast to boot) - Thanks buckybeer- Pours thick black with a medium brown head...aroma is oak, cacao and molassas malt...flavour throws it all out on the table, nothing hidden, bourbon, coffee, vanilla oak...finish is char bitter, not hop bitter...a lot of flavour but still not too complex, just an easy drinking winner...
