Huge oak, vanilla and bourbon aroma that lead me into the first sip. The same in the flavour except for a nice creamy texture that gives a wonderful sensation on the palate. Decent viscosity and an odd carbonation present. A bit like Unibroue with a slight yeasty presence. Not my cup of tea here, but everything else about this is wonderful. Coffee, more vanilla, a bit of chocolate all square-dance on my tongue. Nice complementary bitterness on the backend. Very well done! mattmc1973 (302), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 8, 2008 12 oz bottle, pours like motor oil, jet black with brown head. Head is frothy and small, and dissipated fully, leaving a small amount of lacing. Aroma is incredible, one of the best smelling beers I’ve ever encountered. Aroma is overwhelmingly coffee, with a bit of chocolate and bourbon. Taste is very, very strong coffee, with bourbon barrel wood, tobacco and slight chocolate. Mouthfeel is quite creamy with slight fizz. Excellent beer, one of the best stouts I’ve had. But it’s rich and strong, couldn’t drink more than one of these. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 7, 2008 Pours a rich, oil, opaque dark brown color with a small brown head. Nose of fresh coffee beans ,roasted malts , bourbon are predominant. Initial taste of bourbon splashing over the mouth topped coffee beans. Mild chocolate lingering. Mid palate to finish indeed is roasty with lots of bourbon. Balancing hop and vanilla finish. Palate duration is long and wet. The warming of the abv is good for a 10% which is well hidden. desurfer (1067), Pinellas Park, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | May 7, 2008 Aroma of sweet malts with a distinct bourbon tone. Flavor is a melding of roasted coffee, chocolate and whiskey. Dry, tart finish. Tasty! Rogueone (506), I F&ckin’ hate those guys from, Ohio, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 7, 2008 This beer reminds me of all of the pleasures of growing up in Southern Ohio. Motor oil appearance, smells like my grandpa, (vanilla pipe tobacco, coffee, and bourbon) and really warm. And like my grandpa, just gets better with age. Yee-haw! Pour me some more, pa! lagomswedish (213), Umeå, Sweden
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 5, 2008 Bottle shared with Ronald and Carita in Finland. Time for the big guns with this amazing Impie. Massive hit of freshly ground coffee and vanilla milk. Sticky head that smothered the glass with lacing. What hasn’t this beer got - tobbaco, smoke, tar, coffee, liquor heat, charchol, blackboard - so many layers...
One of the best-smelling beers out there in my opinion. If I was being really picky I’d say the bourbon added some unwelcome heat, but as it’s kind of the point who am I to complain! IlanMan (817), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | May 4, 2008 Pour is thick black with a strong bourbon and coffee aroma. Flavor had strong bourbon, coffee bite, light chocolate, medium hops, and a slight burntness. Blended real well making it smooth and hiding the alcohol quite well. There is a finishing taste that I couldn’t quite get. It may have been a little sour, tart, or could have been the coffee. Would buy again for sure.
