jeffwilliams11 (310), hooterville, Michigan, USA Mar 30, 2008 Updated: Mar 31, 2008this is one unbelievable beer. piles of coffee and chocolate all rounded out with that smooth burbon finish. i could drink this every day and not get bored with it. esjaygee (1467), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA Mar 28, 2008 Updated: Aug 6, 2009Black with a medium tan head, moderately dissipating. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, sugar, coffee, some oak and moderate bourbon. Taste of bourbon, coffee, light chocolate, roasted malt and some saltiness. Smooth and finishes up a bit roasty with some bourbon and warming effects. I like it better than I did the first time, but I still prefer the original breakfast stout.
At Three Cellars tasting Founder’s Brewery night. Very dark brown with thin light brown head. Smells of bourbon & coffee. Taste of overpowering bourbon & some coffee. Kind of sticky & tastes a little too much like bourbon (yuck). Over-rated, IMO. chimpscampee (556), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Mar 26, 2008 Updated: Jan 23, 2009Charred coffee, bakers chocolate, wood, oak, vanilla, oily, amd ph yeah, bourbon. This nose through taste through finish. Sureal heavan. MoDog (909), Griffith, Indiana, USA Mar 25, 2008 Poured from a 12oz bottle and served in a snifter. This beer poured an almost opaque black with just a few rays of light seeping through around the edges of the glass. A thin head of tan foam lasted throughout, leaving some thick lace. The aroma of the beer was made up of a heavy dose of strong coffee, chocolate, smoke, burnt malt, and just a hint of bourbon. The flavor consisted of sweet chocolate, vanilla, espresso roast coffee, and a very nice, mellow bourbon flavor. The bourbon was not overpowering or in the way, just complimentary to the other flavors. The mouthfeel was full-bodied and slightly sticky. Very light carbonation. A really nice imperial stout that uses barrel aging to add another layer of flavor...not overtake the base beer. Like a cup of strong coffee with a nip of whiskey. lovemyipas (420), sw burbs, Illinois, USA Mar 25, 2008 pours a thick used motor oil black with a nice looking and huge two finger fluffy black brown head. aroma is bourbon, sweet chocolate, and some coffee. has a heavy body with great lacing and a bit of carbonation. flavor is the same as aroma but stronger, and in the aftertaste the chocolate is more bitter bakers chocolate and cocoa powder. has a little dry aftertaste and the 10% abv is well hidden. a superb stout!! it is somewhat oily and creamy on the palate and is a little sticky on the fingers and lips. every flavor sticks to the tongue for a while and as it warms a little more the aroma does get stronger. i could only drink one of these in one sitting though. Davinci (295), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 25, 2008 Black as hell pour with thin tan head, nice lacing. Nose is hugely coffee grounds, some licorice and chocolate, some raisiny dark fruit... and oh yeah, more coffee! Taste is chocolate and dark fruits covered in bitter grainy coffee grounds. Body 8is very creamy with mild carbonation. The flavor keeps making me think I’ll be chewing on coffee grounds soon, but it’s so smooth and delicious. good stuff to be sure. GMCC2181 (846), Bear, Delaware, USA Mar 23, 2008 Updated: Mar 29, 2008Bottle from STFUN! Dark black color, small toffee colored head that dissappeared quickly. Nice aroma of bourbon and coffee. It is really smooth. Taste is vanilla, coffee and hint of bourban. Texture was medium. Over all, a great beer. Thanks josh! Unique69crazy (119), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Mar 23, 2008 Delicious!! I had this at the release party held at Founders back on 3/15. They served it at a mild temperature in a goblet glass. Swirls of vanilla and coffee is about what to expect out of this. Doesn’t give a head, very thick and sweet, the aroma is swell too. You can smell the alcohol from the first taste, but it is hidden very well. Excellent stout, would recommend to anyone, but it does waiver a decent price tag and so far I was only able to find this at the brewery.
