Sparky27 (1559), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Mar 14, 2008 Bottle courtesy of JB175. Pours an oily dark opaque black with a minimal light brown head. Nose is coffee with hints of bourbon. Palate is coffee, dark chocolate milk and bourbon. Creamy mouth feel with a mellow finish. Alcohol is well hidden but has a warming affect ¾ through. This stuff is delicious. corby112 (671), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 14, 2008 Bottle brought out as a surprise during Founders event at South Philadelphia Taproom. And what a surprise it was! Pours pitch black with thin coffee colored head. Excellent aroma which is dominated by bourbon and oak but not too much so that you cant’t detect the chocolate and roasted coffee. I smelled this beer for several minutes before sampling it. This beer is very smooth considering it’s complexity and ABV. Lots of bourbon and oak flavor, roasted coffee maltiness, vanilla, chocolate candi sugar and caramel. Excellent! neuskoul (1), USA does not count Mar 14, 2008 I cant believe the craftmanship of this beer! It has an aroma that can only be described as coffee meets sweet chocolate meets the aroma of a freshly ground coffee beans. Its head is small and frothy, AWASOME beer, period. Bockyhorsey (2485), Mesa, Arizona, USA Mar 14, 2008 12oz bottle from ughsmash. Aromas of oats, sweet malted rich chocolate and coffee. Black body with just a dusting of darktan cover for head. Good sweet chocolate and roasted coffee flavor. Body seamed to be little thinner than couple of other impy stousts I’ve had. Good beer and thanks Jason for the trade. DoubleBubble (107), Mescal Lakes (wherever that is), Arizona, USA Mar 12, 2008 Pours a black/brown color with a 1" light brown head. Very spotty lacing. Aroma of expresso/ coffee, light chocolate, roasty malts, and oak. Flavors of oak, coffee, very slight vanilla, and light chocolate. Smooth on the tounge, a little bitter, but no lingering aftertaste. Wonder what would happen if I drank this for breakfast instead of the morning coffee. Goodgrief (1144), Middletown, Delaware, USA Mar 10, 2008 Updated: Apr 28, 2008Sept. 2007 - Delicious blend of coffee, bourbon, oatmeal and chocolate. The regular Breakfast Stout is outstanding and the bourbon aging actually complemented and enhanced the flavor rather than overpowering it. Excellent. Thanks to eaglefan538 for sharing. April 2008 - Second tasting, not as impressed. A lot of bourbon overwhelms most of the other flavors. Still good, but bumped down from the 4.6 original rating. StFun (535), Indiana, USA Mar 10, 2008 Updated: Apr 30, 2009Brew smells awesome, like a black hole of roasted coffee and bourbon. Pours black and thick like oil, perfect tan and frothy head. Top half is the perfect Imperial Stout, complex, smooth, and bold. Roasted barley, malt, coffee, chocolate, and just a hint of oats and bourbon. Delicious! Thick and creamy and awesome. Bourbon becomes overpowering in the bottom half however. The further you get into the bottle, the more the complexity gives way to bourbon. chicagodri (1021), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 8, 2008 From the bottle, pours a thick black with a thin tan head that stays on the outside of your glass as you drink it. The bourbon isn’t as strong as the Goose Island Bourbon County, but it picks up the aroma/flavor well in this beer. The main aroma I think is still of coffee and the vanilla really isn’t noticeable. Great flavor though and it is very easy to drink. Still doesn’t seem like a 10% beer, it goes down so smooth. Very enjoyable.
