Commercial Description:
A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

Palate – Great whiskey Mouthfeel, awesome stout texture with a nice dry finish.
Overall – This is one of the best beers I have ever had. The flavors where just over the top. How can they make such a truly awesome beer. The whiskey was perfect in this beer. Great Job Founders Brewing.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with Photekut. Pours black with a moderate chocolate brown head that completely disppears by mid-glass. Lots of coffee in the aroma with notes of bourbon and chocolate as well. More bourbon is detected in the flavor with coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla and roasted malt also present. Some bitterness from the coffee kicks in after a few seconds and lingers into the swallow. Full bodied with a definite alcohol presence. There’s no disguising that this is high octane. A very good beer to start off a Sunday morning!

Pitch black with a finger high dark tan head. Very strong coffee ground aroma, a bit of vanilla and toffee. Flavor is coffee, dark chocolate, toffee, vanilla, and a just a tad bit of bourbon, but that is a stretch even. Amazingly hides the alcohol almost completely. Dry, slightly sweet finish with a little bit of carbonation. Thick and almost chalky, not quite. Very enjoyable.

Tasted side by side with Goose Island Bourbon County Stout. First thought.....where is the bourbon? Seriously, this one is so coffee dominated, I can barely pick up any alcoholic notes at all, much less bourbon. Freshly ground coffee explodes into the nose, followed closely by dark and bitter chocolates, toasted caramel, and trace amounts of bourbon. A quick swirl of the opaque mahogany liquid reveals moderately thick, sugary legs that leave virtually no lacing behind. Flavors of decadent dark chocolate and rich, freshly ground coffee beans are kissed by just a touch of boozy bourbon. The body is medium-full and very smooth, with a lingering coffee roast sticking to the roof of the mouth and the tongue for ages. This is a very nice brew, but is it really much better than Terrapin Wake-N-Bake? I think not. Bourbon County Stout owns this beer.

Thanks to Ughsmash for this awesome brew. Pours black, silky smooth with a brown head. Rich sweet coffee nose with a bourbon and vanilla twang. This beer reminds me of an old bar back home that used to have Guinness and Tia Maria specials, with that strong coffee liqour character. Finish has sweet chocolate and a soft bourbon charm.

Vintage 2006 Pours opaque black, with dark brown bubbles that struggle to overcome the viscous liquid. A inverted cascade of ulta-fine carbonation swells to a half inch with an exaggerated pour. The whipped batter lasted less than two sips and dissolved to barely a whisp on the surface. Aromatics are pungent with heavily roasted coffee, bitter chocolate, and a small dose of bourbon. The mouthfeel is thick, chewy and slightly grainy. Plenty of gription and cling-power. The pallet is laden with plenty of dry, bitter, dark chocolate, black-roasted coffee grounds, oak char, and burnt malt. Hopping is subdued, and alcohol is slightly warming. Finishes with lingering brownie batter infused with espresso, and spiked with a hint of whiskey. The bourbon in this beer is quite subdued and is complimentary to the coffee and chocolate.

The super rich coffee/cereal stout is coated and given legs as a serious sipper. One difference noticed right away is the relative no head and darker body. Taste goes from the pure dessert to a roasted malt alcoholic warmer. The body is both thick and syrupy. Otherwise the two share many of the same qualities in aroma and taste and result in required tasting for the stout fan.
