MikeF (528), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Sep 23, 2007 In short, one of the best Imperial stouts ever brewed. Tried on tap at the brewery.
Smooth blend of rich roasted malt, oak, and bourbon flavors creating a robust, stately, gentleman’s drink. Subtle flavors abound, to complex for description. Clean palate, with a great decrescendo finish. jbird73 (10), orlando, Florida, USA Sep 17, 2007 An interesting brew good aroma with strong hints of oak and coffe with like a sugary taste. a little bit of a tangy after taste though Dorwart (1807), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA Sep 12, 2007 Pours a slick viscous body. Minimal head that disappears quickly and no carbonation. Lies lifeless in the glass. But wait, there is life. A pungent aroma slowly climbs out of the glass and wafts across the room. Rich and powerful. Roasted malts, strong bitter coffee, light alcoolic notes and raisins. Color is black with a light crimson ring around the top in a strong light. Strong and flavorful. Lots of coffee and roasted grains hit you up front. Light alcohol presence is masked in all of the flavor. Brown sugar, molasses and carbon mixes in mid swallow. Burbon is present in just a touch and melds very well with the other flavors. Finishes a little dry and bitter. Big and powerful brew but amazingly easy drinking. A top notch impy. Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Sep 12, 2007 A big thanks to hopscotch for bringing this one along so a few of us could have our first chance at tasting it. Black pour with light brown head. Very dark looking brew. The aroma is huge with coffee grounds first then burnt malts and hints of a barrel age odor. The taste starts with burnt malts and bourbon. Then the coffee starts to take hold followed by alcohol and wood that deliver the taste experience to the finish. Into the after taste I get sweet caramel, molasses and more coffee. Wow, this beer has a huge flavor that just punish the palate into sweet sublime submission. aubreya (676), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Sep 12, 2007 Pour: so black! thick bodied, resembles motor oil. Head: creamy, thick, dark tan. Aroma: coffee, dark roast, alcohol, sweet. Flvaor: coffee, very roasty, alcohol. Palate: smooth. Finish: very roasty and warm. DragonStout (1380), Pataskala, Ohio, USA Sep 8, 2007 Wow! A big pour of black goodness, texas tea.Lots of coffee, bourbon and vanilla. Flavor is the same and also is chewy.Love the balance of all the flavors without the bourbon being to over the top.the alcohol was hidden well.Finish had some bourbon tones.Very good Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA Sep 8, 2007 12oz bottle from a trade. Pour was dark brown with small tan head. Nose was right up front was buroun, then coffeee, caramel trace vanilla, chocolate. This was great. Lots in the mouth, same as nose with a bit of peper, and lots of alcohol through out. Got better as it warmed. Great brew. Thanks! footy (334), scottsdale, Arizona, USA Sep 8, 2007 5/24/07. 12 oz. Trade with OhioDad.Thanks. Viscous pour. Deep deep black almost opaque with a very small brown head. Dense coffee aroma which overpowers any Bourbon. Amazingly good mouthfeel. Coffee and whiskey taste but mainly coffee with a very nice bitterness. Luckily not overpowering coffee. Overall very good.
