Commercial Description:
A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

12 oz bottle courtesy of AdamB84 from BA site. Pours a dark brown, almost black and thick like motor oil. Thin light brown head. Some lacing on the glass. Kinda incredible smell of bourbon, alcohol, ashes, wood and roastiness with some chocolate. Thick mouthfeel. This is one rich tasting, decadent brew! Taste flavors of chocolate, wood, alcohol and coffee. Slightly bitter chocolate aftertaste.

Goodness amazing. Pour was so dark black with tanish head. Aroma was of oak bourbon coffee and a roasty/smoke. Flavor was much the same and to my drinking pleasure the bourbon didn’t take over like some other aged beers. Amazing beer

Sampled 10/7/07 courtesy of kenb. Very woody on the finish . . . obvious bourbon-barrel presence, but I didn’t find a whole lot else. Licorice on the scent, and very fumey.

Small sample, so I hope to rerate in the future if I get a chance. Color was black with light brown head. Aroma was of chocolate, coffee, vanilla and bourbon. Flavor was a very good coffee flavor, one of the best I have had. Hints of bitter chocolate, bourbon and wood. Very good example of the style.

Thanks to KM Weaverfor this bottle and Quake1028 for another. Pours like motor oil! Small brown head. Smells like cold coffee an chocolate. Flavor is coffee, slightl bitter and somewhat boozy. The body of this is so full it reminds me of a milkshake. Very creamy mouthfeel with a bitter finish. Re-Rated for 09 batch.

Bottle from iowahekeye in June 2007. Thanks.1 Pours with no head and small bubbles that fade fast. Pitch black color. Swirling, it seems thin. Strong smokey, toasted and oak aromas. Maybe even a bit of bourbon aroma, but it may be the toasted oak confusing me. Medium body. Not dry, but not sweet either, hmmm. Alchohol is well hidden. Lots of flavor of raisins, coffee, molasses, and a little roasted grains. Gets better as it warms up. Excellent beer even though I’m not a big fan of smoky.
