IndianaRed (1553), Boise, Idaho, USA Aug 18, 2007 Bottle pours a pitch black witha big dark tan head. Big dark roasted aroma, lots of chocolate, a little Burbon and some toosstsie rolls. A slight hint of stale cigaretts or ashtrays. Flavor is big and sweet. Again lots of chocoalte. Trailer has a nice amount of bittering at the end to ballance. Palatte was smooth and heavy, but a little chalky.
Thanks to Buckeyeboy via Footbalm for this lovely unit. jsh12bama (335), Alabama, USA Aug 17, 2007 Bottle courtesy of jimbowood. The way a barrel aged beer is supposed to be. Perfect mix of bourbon, coffee, and chocolate. ukoolaid (572), Amherst, Massachusetts, USA Aug 17, 2007 Bottle. Pours like dirty motor oil. Like mud. Black with brown foamy head and excellent lacing. Aroma is super powerful. Coffee, caramel, high quality bitter chocolate, whiskey, fairly dry...wow. MHED (112), lisle, USA Aug 15, 2007 whooa baby!!! thick and lush. pours like a deep colored wine reduction, takinig its time gently settling. Huge aroma of dark chocolate, dark roast coffee, vanilla oak and cream soda/cola. heavy begginning that brings malted milk strong coffee, toffee, cherry and licorice that finishes with a ssyrupy like texture of caramal laced espresso.alchohol is definitely there with a nice dose of bourban which is evident in the aroma, gets lost in the middle, then melds nicely in the end with a hint of oak. delicious! crazyvin (1245), New York, USA Aug 14, 2007 My #900th rating. It poured with an opaque black body, with a thin tan head very little lacing No carbonation. Aroma was fully of roasted coffee, and cocoa notes, but with a heavy alcohol scent, some oak notes. Initially the flavor was very sweet, like dark chocolate. The chocolate notes gave way to a warm bourbon flavor. It could have had more balance. It seemed to be extreme chocolate, and then alcohol. Otherwise this beer was great. sneagrams3 (1704), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Aug 12, 2007 12oz bottle. Syrupy sweet aromas exploading from the bottle. Pours opaque brown with a slight ring of tan head. Big nose, big oaky vanilla nose. Woody, vanilla frosting, coffee and toffee. Slight anise soy acidic undertones. Full bodied with big bold flavors. Sticky smooth but with bitter coffee acidity and bitter alcohol. Finish is cloying and lingering with a moderate tingling effervescence. Initial malty toffee flavors mingled in with black cherries and prunes. Coffee chocolate flavors. Toasty malts. Big lingering burn. This packs quite the smack in the grill. I’m totally impressed with this brew, as well as most similar examples of this style. But, the more of these barrel aged monsters that I try, I realize that BA is not really my thing. That being said, this is still a tremendous libation. Great overt flavors, yet still adequately melded. Silky body with hotflashes af alcohol and bitter burnt acidity. Proper temperature, proper glassware, proper propaganda. Cheers
Hudspart (371), Hudsonville, Michigan, USA Aug 10, 2007 Updated: Aug 21, 2008From the tap in a snifter. Maybe I was expecting more or maybe it is because I do not like bourbon, but I was a little disappointed in this brew. Almost no head by the time it got to me. Dark as night. Bourbon flavor pushed aside all other flavors. Nice drink and I would recommend to everyone, but I would prefer other beers at the brewery to this drink. yjb (110), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Aug 8, 2007 Updated: Apr 17, 2009Black-purple oats meal their way through the bitter dark coffee-vanilla-chocolate frapalocaccino. As the thin head slowly fades I think back to previous drinks. You were so lovely the first time I met you, you’re lovely (08)... now you come back, more refined less vanilla, but more refined. mature (09)... screw it, you’re the perfect beer im giving you a 5.
