Bottle thanks to ericandersnavy. Pours a burnt motor oil black with chocolate head. Aroma smacks you in the face with coffee, hints of bourbon. Flavor doesn’t let up after that, strong espresso, bourbon, little oak. Mouth feel is heavy body, creamy, low carbonation. Overall, this is an excellent stout, loved it! Try cold and allow to warm, then taste again. Very nice beer!

Bottle from DuffmanSW shared with mspindler. Pours dark black with thin brown bubbly head. Aroma and flavor of sweet roasted coffee, vanilla, oak, earthy. Espresso bitterness, silky, alcohol taste. Low carbonation. Overall enjoyable.

(trade with xmarcnolanx) At first pour it looks like motor oil with no sign of a head, but by the time the beer is in the glass there’s a dark tan head about 2mm high, which settles down to a ring of foam. Zero light penetrates the glass when held up to a 60w bulb! Strong aroma of cocoa powder with hints of vanilla. I could sit here taking air hits off the glass for a long time its so good. Remember I said looked like motor oil? It has a thick body of motor oil when drinking too. Huge flavors of coconut and vanilla. Make no mistake this is a sipping beer, the flavor is so intense. Once you get over the extreme roasty aftertaste there’s a warming on the palate of the bourbon which lasts for quite some time. While this may not turn out to be your favorite beer of all time, if you like imperials and you like alcohol barrell aged brews you MUST try this one.

pours pitch oily black, thin mahogany head with long lasting golden lacing. Aroma has strong notes of booze, bourbon barrel and oak wood, lot of dark chocolate. Flavor, warming abv, thick chocolate palate with boozy notes of oak and bourbon barrel. Roasted malts coupled with some coffee and toasted grains and some lingering chocolate bitterness with some interesting hoppy twist, though faint can be felt. Overall palate is thick and oily with a good punch of alcohol warmth. This one had a low carbonation. This one is definitely not as good as the older version but packs a good punch nonetheless.

Bottle at Craig’s bit tasting, Edinburgh, 21-03-09 thanks to Craig for a nice evening and for getting some great beers I’ve finally moved this over after months of Craig telling me that I’d rated this and put in the Founders Breakfast Stout box rather than this one. Pours dark thick oily and a little sticky, yes this is pretty much shark eye black with no real head that I noticed. Some vanilla and bourbon on the nose and very much in evidence in the mouth, also its very roasty. Soft feeling in the mouth, the alcohol leaves a steady warmth around the gums and across the tongue, its good. A really nice stout that finished with a little hoppy flurry. A7 A4 F7 P4 OV15 3.7

Sampled side by side with the regular breakfast stout. This was much, much better. It was dessert in a snifter. Coffee, chocolate, vanilla and bourbon dominate the nose. Heavy oak, bourbon and vanilla, however it is kept in check by the chocolate, coffee and dark malts. My favorite from founders.

Holy shit this is good. Like a handful of magic, it tastes like jewels and courage. Makes you want to fuck. Bottle thanks to either JW77, Daknole, or Ryan.

Thanks to STLWill for this tasty brew. Poured into a brandy snifter, 09’. The pour produces an oily impenetrable black with no head to speak of. The nose is rife with rich chocolate, light roasted coffee, burboun, vanilla, wood and minimal booze. The flavour doesn’t quite do the perfect aroma justice, but it’s enjoyable. Lots of bourbon up front, and in the finish. Loads of coffee and oatmeal flavour as well, doing well to hide the booze. The finish is rather watery compared to the massive fullness up front. As it warms, the bourbon character takes over, in a delicious, but boozier way.
