Commercial Description:
A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

First bottle of the 2007 Summer Secret Santa Stash. Black beer smells like an ashtray. Flavour is smooth, alcohol, prune a touch of chocolate and a touch of ash. Weird ashtray and prune.

So I finally get to try this beer....wow what a brew! Amazing. Totally black like soy sauce...no real head at all. Aromas are malty, bourbon, vanilla, and coffee...oh yes coffee. Flavors of coffee, vanilla, bourbon, chocolate. A hint of tartness creeps up on you and folk do yourself a favor:...eat some dark chocolate with this brew. Wow.

Sampled at the Extreme Beer Fest. Pours a pitch black color. Great aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee with a bourbon feeling. Great flavor of roasted and biscuity malt, coffee and chocolate, there’s also a bourbon feeling. Full body, liquorous texture. I can’t say I like it better than regular breakfast stout but it is as good, which is very good.

Bottle thanks to mibirder. Pours like ink. Black body with a small and quickly leaving brown head. Alcohol legs and good lacing. Aroma of black coffee, chocolate, dirt, minerally, and light burbon. Taste is burbon, chocolate, and dark coffee. Syrupy mouthfeel, little lively bubbles and a long finish. Good beer, but not really a 4.2 beer.

Deep black color with a medium brown head that disappears steadily. Thin spotty lacing. Aroma of espresso, caramel and bourbon. Thick and oily with a strong coffee character, as well as roasted malt, oak and dark chocolate flavors. Bourbon/whiskey is there throughout and adds a nice dimension rather than being a distraction as seems to happen sometimes. The finish is bitter with coffee and a light alcohol burn. Enjoyable for sure, although a bit on the pricey side.

In short: A big roasted coffee chocolaty and woody imperial stout. Excellent, way above average
How: Bottle 12oz. I’ve had it many times before but I’m finally rating one. This one is a 1 year bottle given to me by dmac 1 year ago, thanks a lot Dave.
The look: Black body topped by a tan ring of foam
In long: Nose is roasted and black coffee. Taste is more of the same. Sweet cacao upfront, roasted coffee beans, alcohol moderately apparent, some black chocolate, rather sweet, brown sugar, molasses hint, low on the fruity side of things, low-profile hops with mild bitterness. Only a light barrel presence. This truly is a superior Imperial Stout but I had it next to the Expedition Stout of the same age (1 year old) and honestly the KBS doesn’t hold a candle to the Expedition, unless of course you stick a candle in the KBS bottle but then you won’t be able to drink it

Thanks to Ughsmash for this awesome brew. Pours black, silky smooth with a brown head. Rich sweet coffee nose with a bourbon and vanilla twang. This beer reminds me of an old bar back home that used to have Guinness and Tia Maria specials, with that strong coffee liqour character. Finish has sweet chocolate and a soft bourbon charm.
