Commercial Description:
A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

(Rating #1350)

Black with deep brown edges. Nose was dusty and woody. Soft but weighty texture. Warming. Slight sourness. Faint notes of chocolate and coffee. Pinch of molasses, too. Sweet whiskey and wood. Pleasant beer, but it seemed a little muted. Or maybe it was I that was muted.

12-ounce. Thanks, SecretSanta! What an awesome capper to a great Christmas of trades! Pours opaque black with thick, moussy, thin dark tan head. Deep chocolate nose with thick roast, oak, vanilla, and molasses notes. Thick, velvety, creamy body. Very soft, barely detectable carb. All the sweet chocolate, roast, oak, vanilla, and molasses come back around for the mid-palate, along with a distinct wood note. Clean, soft finish. Amazingly complex beer.

A big thanks to hopscotch for bringing this one along so a few of us could have our first chance at tasting it. Black pour with light brown head. Very dark looking brew. The aroma is huge with coffee grounds first then burnt malts and hints of a barrel age odor. The taste starts with burnt malts and bourbon. Then the coffee starts to take hold followed by alcohol and wood that deliver the taste experience to the finish. Into the after taste I get sweet caramel, molasses and more coffee. Wow, this beer has a huge flavor that just punish the palate into sweet sublime submission.

Strong aromas of bourbon, oak, earth, roast, and mild dark chocolate. Pours black with a tan head that settles into a ring. Good amount of oak and bourbon, roasted and burnt malts, light chocolate too. Lingering oak and dark roast. Creamy smooth with nice warming effects from the bourbon. Delicious.

Bottle shared by Odeed, Thanks Jake! Nose of dark kona coffee, bourbon, and dark chocolate; Black with cherry edge highlights, small tan head; Flavor of bourbon, bitter coffee, woodiness, and chocolate; medium body with a slightly bitter and alcohol finish. Very good, much better than the BA Old Raspy that followed.

Bottle thanks to Daknole! Silky black, scant but rich brown head. Rich coffee aroma is filled with beany goodness and tons of bourbon. Extremely silky palate. Smooth coffee flavors. Some heat in the quick finish. Very nice full-on coffee beer.

12oz. Bottle: Aroma is very sweet. Smells malty with strong notes of chocolate, roasting, and coffee. Poured black in color with a small, dark brown head that diminished. Medium lacing. Opaque. Heavily sweet flavor. Tastes of chocolate, alcohol, roasted malts, cream, and a little bourbon. Medium to full body. Slightly sticky, kind of thin texture. Soft carbonation. Long, sweet, bourbony finish. Overall, a very good Stout.
