Bottle from MaltOMeal at the December Houston tasting. Thanks! Pours deep black with a thin body and an aroma of used coffee grounds with a hint of bourbon oak. Flavor is bourbon-infused coffee, oak, and light caramel. Full mouthfeel. Nice, nice beer.

12oz twist-off bottle. Vintage 2006. Big bourbon barrel aroma. Lots of vanilla, coffee, wood, big chocolate. Smells of charcoal. Big bourbon and vanilla flavors. Full bodied Stout.

Bottle for rating #1700: Blackened brown, opaque, moderate foamy brown head, falls quickly, leaving spots of lacing.   Huge nose of coffee and earth, slight charred wood, campfire.   Bourbon and vanilla notes are subtle as compared to what I would consider a charred barrel.   Rich malt sweetness... oh lordy... smooth as can be.   Amazingly clean too.   Much more Bourbon here, and vanilla too.   Remains coffee oriented, with a big sweet barrel aged finish.   Warming, but not very hot.   ABV is fairly well hidden, with only snippets appearing at the finish.   Slight hop presense appears as it warms.   Juicy stuff.   Thanks so much Jason for this wonderful brew!!!

Ok...I knew this beer was going to be great, but, for some reason I was thinking it was a hype thing and wasn’t expecting it to be nearly as good as it appears. I was wrong. It pours with a black body topped by a thin to medium thick, light brown head with a good amount of lacing left on the glass. It’s sweet and malty with notes of roasted coffee and chocolate, as well as a nice underlying vanilla, bourbon note. Amazing...just the right amount of bourbon comes through. Full bodied, creamy and smooth.

Really ashy in the aroma. It’s weird how a lot of coffee stouts get this aroma. Real coffee never smells this way. The flavor remains ashy. This one isn’t as tasty as I hoped.

Aroma – Big whiskey and stout aroma. Dark malts, tons of whiskey, coffee and chocolate aromas.
Appearance – Dark black in color with a thin stout head.
Flavor – Awesome flavors, the whiskey was just enough to make this a truly awesome beer. One of the best . Loved the flavors and the Coffee, chocolate and dark malts all came through on this one.
Palate – Great whiskey Mouthfeel, awesome stout texture with a nice dry finish.
Overall – This is one of the best beers I have ever had. The flavors where just over the top. How can they make such a truly awesome beer. The whiskey was perfect in this beer. Great Job Founders Brewing.

12 oz. bottle courtesy cdumler. Thanks Chris! Dark brown pour with a small brown head. Very strong and very bitter roasted coffee aroma with oak and vanilla trying almost in vain to fight their way through. Taste is strong coffee, very roasted malts and oak and vanilla notes. Full bodied. People who don’t drink coffee beware, this will be over the top for you, as it was for me, but it is a damned good beer.

Bottle courtesy from CBA and Moejuck: Poured a deep black color stout with a small foamy head with limited retention but some lacing. Aroma of coffee and vanilla is well balance and even more so then the regular version. Taste was a nice and well balance mix between some coffee, vanilla and light bourbon. The alcohol was hidden and didn’t overpower the beer, coffee was well balance as oppose to the regular version and body was oily with a full texture. I have to admit to being quite impressed with this after having been totally disappointed by the regular version.
