Pretty good though I might prefer the regular Breakfast Stout. mkobes (2104), paramus, New Jersey, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 6, 2006 Updated: Feb 7, 2008Lighter shade of black. Scattered later of creamy, fine-bubbled cappuccino foam. Surface notes of coffee, tar, and burnt malt comprise the aroma. Underlying vanilla, tannins, and perfumey bourbon. Dense bubbles softly massage the palate. Oily. Onset of beautifully tight and understated tannins immediately penetrate the tarry body. Deeply rooted nutty and earthy coffee flavors exude firmly beneath the surface, but no acridness is discernable. Very bright/clean bourbon character provides a gentle tingle and harmonizes with the silky tannins, which briefly lift the sweetness from the tongue. No huskiness or overt vanillin sweetness from the barrel, at all. And the tannins are so soft, they never amplify the alcohol. Thickset tandem of cakey malts and chocolate fudge reinforce the body and soften the tannic acid as dried plums highlight the crunchy char grit. Tannins and roast induced acidity eventually succumb to everlasting flavors of dry, oaky char and rich coffee. Although not a world beater, this totally defied my expectations of finding something crowded and oversweet. What I got instead was something remarkably gelled and pleasingly mellow. A well constructed brew. PhillyBeer2112 (2089), Orange Park, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 4, 2008 Thanks Santa! Hmmm, a bit unbalanced! Poured a deep black, dark brown head, 2 fingers thick. Aroma is all over the map, with oak, vanilla, coffee, milk chocolate, roasted malt, some resiny hop, and alcohol and swirling and competing for attention. The flavor is quite similar, very sweet and heavy. I think their regular Breakfast stout is a better beer, showcasing the coffee without the bourbon character smearing it all up. vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 26, 2006 Pours black, almost like oil, with a dark brown head - a thing of beauty. The aroma had some dark chocolate, vanilla bean, hefty amount of bourbon and even more dark roasted coffee. Very powerful aroma. The body of the beer was think and oily with low carbonation. The flavor was very thick with coffee and very highly roasted - light chocolate in the mix as well. The bourbon is in the initial taste, but gets significantly stronger as the beer goes down. None of the alcohol in this thing is hidden - there is definitely a burn. By the end there was mainly bourbon and coffee in the mix. For what they are trying to do they were successful, but too many aspects of being a beer got lost in the process for me. Okay to try, but I won’t need another. patrick767 (2049), fort wayne, Indiana, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 28, 2008 sampled at DLD, thanks to the West Virginia crew that traveled 11 hours to bring me beer... err, to get Dark Lord that is - Pours black with a thin tan head. The aroma is of dark roast malt, coffee, and lots of bourbon. Bourbon and coffee take front and center in the flavor, especially the bourbon. If there’s any flaw it may be that they went just a touch heavy on the bourbon, but it’s really freaking good anyway. Full bodied and still very drinkable for a big, high abv beer, I really enjoyed it. SpringsLicker (2043), Tennessee, USA

Complex aroma gives off lots of cocoa, coffee, vanilla, bourbon and a touch of roasted malt.
The flavor follows the aroma. The bourbon is nicely done, not overpowering but present. The chocolate and coffee support the bourbon nicely.
Good enough to remain on the wants list. Thanks to Dough77 for this one. SHIG (2037), Aviano, Italy
