Commercial Description:
A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

12 oz bottle: poured black with a smallish brown head. Big chocolate and coffee aroma. I didn’t notice any bourbon in the nose but it is definitely in the taste. First sip revealed just some coffee and chocolate but the next sip is where the bourbon kicked in. Big coffee with bourbon on top of that. The chocolate seems to subside with subsequent sips yielding to the coffee. Long bitter finish with warming alcohol. Good beer.

I was psyched to see this. A black appearance with a beige head. The aroma is whiskey and coffee. Or smells like Jim Morrisons breakfast. The body is a little lighter than I expected. The bitter and sweet balance out fairly well with chocolate and coffee present. The whiskey is always making its presence known. Good one!

Pours Thick and black with wonderful tan head. Coffee, vanilla and bourbon on the nose. Flavor follows suit just add some coffee, oatmeal, and oak. Calming vanilla finish

Bottle from my number one fan, TAR. Poured a complete pitch black with a head of orange that required some coaxing from me to appear. I held this to my nose and said aloud, damn, that’s a lot of coffee. Then I had to fight past that to see what else was there, but I have to admit I had fears this may be another peche mortel for me, we’ll see. A lot of alcohol in the nose with a light wood and cocoa flavor. Viscous. Damn it is chewy, but I am smiling because it is not the coffee bomb I was afraid of. It’s one of those that makes a man with a moustache happy, flavor savor, in the non ot-d way. Yes, there is a lot of coffee going on here, but there is a nice bittersweet cocoa, light alcohol bite, toffee, oh yes, buttery toffee, and it is glorious. O/k/ I just pounded the bottom of the bottle to make sure every damn drop got in my glass. I love the way the barrel flavor remains in the background and accents the beer, not dominate, although it does show itself a bit more in the finish than anywhere else. This is the kind of beer I needed to restore my love of stouts. There is a pepper flavor, not the heat but the flavor that reminds me of cayenne, and it is so damn good I want to punch someone in the face (please don’t make me explain this). All I can say is I would do bad things to people I care about for this beer, it is that good. thanks for the bottle, Jeff, you know I love ya man. Hell, I love everyone after this beer, well, almost everyone. Ap-5 ar-8 tas-9 pal-5 ov-20

12 oz bottle, big thanks to Pailhead! Deep black with a creamy dark brown head. Nose is very alluring - chocolate, coffee, some decent bourbon notes, touched with vanilla. Full, rich mouthfeel. Very complex flavors, rich chocolate, smooth coffee, distinct soft bourbon. The integration of the flavors here is completely seamless. A wonderful beer!

12oz bottle from Artusory. This dark brown ale poured into a snifter with a thin tan head, and you can really smell the bourbon. The oak bourbon barrell aging is a very nice enhancement to the outstanding original Breakfast Stout. The chocolate flavor is replaced, or at least overwhelmed by the bourbon characteristic, so it is a much different flavor that calls for a cigar.

Pours as a black tarpit of sludge before a reverse cascade eeks out a one-finger head the color of chocolate milk. Slow and sticky legs linger when swirled, yet surprisingly little lace is produced. I leave the room for awhile and return to find a huge aroma that literally meets me at the door. Like a <a href=www.ratebeer.com/><a href=http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons showdown, a fat (yet muscular) whisky character grapples for dominance with a hefty helping of coffee roasts. Deeper investigation reveals peppery hops and juicy dark fruits. A thick, silky mouthfeel is a lazy river to a languid riverboat of flavor. Tastes like the coffeepot’s been on the stove all day but a square of dark chocolate cuts the bitterness. Alcohol returns late as a backwash through the sinuses to wake you up... as if the coffee hasn’t already. Flavors linger with a hint of burnt sourness, but another sip washes it back away to the thick bittersweetness of moccaccino. It was a real pleasure drinking this Top 50 beer, now stand back as I turn up my speakers (Rating #1300)...

Big thanks to OhioDad for hooking this up. Aroma is very heavy on coffee, espresso, chocoloate, with a hint of oak. Body is opaque with no head. Taste is definatly a blend of coffee and espresso, with vanilla bean coming through and oak.
