This dark brown ale poured into a snifter with a thin tan head, and you can really smell the bourbon. The oak bourbon barrell aging is a very nice enhancement to the outstanding original Breakfast Stout. The chocolate flavor is replaced, or at least overwhelmed by the bourbon characteristic, so it is a much different flavor that calls for a cigar. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA

The best stout i have ever had to date. Pours black with a decent size tan head. Aroma of vanilla, chocolate, bourbon, coffee, and oak. The flavor is exceptionally smooth, chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, coffee, just greatness. kappldav123 (1869), Markkleeberg, Germany

Deep black, small creamy head. Starts very strong and malty, notes of strong coffee. Also some liquorice. Finish a bit woody-prickly, modest alcoholic, also with notes of chocolate. A wonderfiul beer! iowaherkeye (1863), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 18, 2006 Rating 200, yay. 12oz bottle, no date. Pours a thick dark brown, almost black with a small dark brown head. Aroma is deep coffee with bourbon undertones. Digging a little deeper I pick up on oak, alcohol, and a soil earthiness. The alcohol comes back in a big way in the taste, along with the bourbon, then the coffee. Roasted malt mild bitterness in the finish. Silky smooth, mild carbonation. Great beer. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA

Pours black/brown with a small light brown head. Smells of big coffee, but the bourbon keeps in check. Really helped out the nose I thought. Some chocolate and roast in there too. The taste is pretty up front with the bourbon, the coffee is up in your grill as well. I liked the blend here. Too much coffee sometimes turns me off a little, so this was a nice balance. Finish was smooth, and the alcohol was masked pretty good I tought. Excellent. RAYBOY01 (1856), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 6, 2006 What a joy, after so many mediocre to average beers I’ve been drinking lately, to retry this spectacular brew. Perfect pour---black and huge brown rocky head. The nose alone would be enough to satisfy most coffee fanatics. The flavors of coffee, espresso, chocolate, molasses, brown sugar and toffee intermingle subtly. The bourbon tastes are also subtle and incredibly well integrated. Top of the line...it doesn’t get any better than this. nearbeer (1855), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Nose of smoked Baby Ruth candy bar: chocolate, charred mesquite, vanilla, peanuts and caramel. Taste is the same with some added whiskey and vanilla. Medium-heavy body is dangerously smooth, watery and drinkable. Some bits of peppery alcohol warming on the finish. Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 21, 2006 Opaque black color. Full light brown foam. Sensational nose which combines the characteristics of the original beer (intense coffee, roast and chocolate) and the barrel (vanilla, coconut, oak) to create a smell that is pure bliss, resembling a melting Snickers bar. Flavor, unfortunately, was a bit of a let down. It just didn’t seem very concentrated and full, not as intense and gripping as the nose promised.
