Black colored with no real head formation. A smattering of lacing. Aroma is full of coffee, chocolate, some bourbon notes of vanilla and tannins however these do not dominate. Full bodied. Overly viscous, wonderful mouthfeel for an IS. Flavor is full of roasted grains and chocolate. Again, coffee and oatmeal seem to overwhelm the bourbon aspect of this beer. Nicely done and worthy of respect. sneagrams3 (1762), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 12, 2007 12oz bottle. Syrupy sweet aromas exploading from the bottle. Pours opaque brown with a slight ring of tan head. Big nose, big oaky vanilla nose. Woody, vanilla frosting, coffee and toffee. Slight anise soy acidic undertones. Full bodied with big bold flavors. Sticky smooth but with bitter coffee acidity and bitter alcohol. Finish is cloying and lingering with a moderate tingling effervescence. Initial malty toffee flavors mingled in with black cherries and prunes. Coffee chocolate flavors. Toasty malts. Big lingering burn. This packs quite the smack in the grill. I’m totally impressed with this brew, as well as most similar examples of this style. But, the more of these barrel aged monsters that I try, I realize that BA is not really my thing. That being said, this is still a tremendous libation. Great overt flavors, yet still adequately melded. Silky body with hotflashes af alcohol and bitter burnt acidity. Proper temperature, proper glassware, proper propaganda. Cheers

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 6, 2006 Bottle, thanks Nick! Opaque. Heavy brown lacing. Big woody, alcoholic aroma. Taste is very alcoholic, tons of whiskey, cherry notes in there too. Lots of vanilla from the barrel. Long sticky, chocolaty finish. As far as barrel aging goes, this is a great example of how to do it right. DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 4, 2006 Dark brown body. Great aroma - well-blended aroma of bourbon, vanilla, chocolate. The flavor things out a bit with bourbon underneath along with sweet chocolate. A bit too much heat. jake65 (1725), Williston, North Dakota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 19, 2007 Bottle: Pours a dark brown, near black with a finger of thick tan head. Aroma is coffee and roasty, near burnt malts. Smoky presence with a little bourbon sweetness. Flavor is cofee with chocolate and bittersweetness, the smoke makes a little bit of a presence known. Kind of a dry smoky feel that detracts a bit from the overall sweetness and bourbon feel. Still, quite nice. SudsMcDuff (1711), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston, Texas, USA

For #900 I wanted to drink something that I thought would be special, and from my favorite style. This was it. Pours very dark black. Smell has a little notes of bourbon, coffee, roasted malts, and a little bit of alcohol. Taste is rich, and not very much like bourbon (which is good since Im not a fan really). This was like drinking a thick, slightly chilled glass of coffee with some Beam in it. Simply an amazing beer, the best oak aged beer Ive had before. This reminds me of Oak Aged Yeti, just more smooth. I would love to have this for breakfast :) shp555 (1693), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
