Commercial Description:
A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

Bottle from a 4-pack (thanks Artusory!). Pours an opaque black/brown with a quickly fading brown head that leaves a constant ring around the glass. Earthy potting soil and rich coffee is propelled up to your nostrils by a gust of bourbon. Flavor has notes of ultra-rich chocolate, oak, bourbon-drenched soil, roasty coffee, dark caramel sweetness and ends with a twinge of tropical fruit. The body, although full, is surprisingly of medium consistency with a rolling fine-beaded carbonation. Everything from Founders is just classic.

Bottle. Pours black with a small light tan head. Aroma of roasted nuts, chocolate peanut butter, coffee, and a touch of bourbon. Flavor is a touch more bourbony with more chocolate and lots of coffee. The bourbon is light but definitely present in the flavor. This is s good beer! Better than the original? Pitch black pour with trace lacing of dark tan. Aroma is strong coffee, some cream, some touches of bourbon and vanilla. Flavor is well blended, quality stout with coffee and nicely mixed bourbon with the accompanying vanilla. Very nicely done.

Black breakfast in a glass. Melted butter thin topping of firm dark cocoa brown foam. Scraggly, icicle-like lacing along with some smeared spotty stuff. Coffee’s on! Wonderfully well rounded aroma of fresh roasted coffee with a vanilla mocha twist and a slight tender pull of chocolate chip waffles. Black breakfast in a glass. Much like the origianl BK stout but with a hearty warming of deep dark earthy roasted stuff. Vanilla, coffee, roast, earth, slight charred edging along some thick Belgian waffles, touch of buttercream, chocolate drizzled, and oh so lovingly warm. Something to wake up for indeed. Like a huge waffle breakfast when your eyes are bigger then your stomach and the coffee is just right and the syrup fills every square just right. The finish is the capper as it rounds around with a chocolatey warming and a perk of roast and fluff lingering. Puffy chocolate remains on the cheeks and floats like hand whipped cream. Total breakfast feel. Fulfilling & without much effort to do so. Warming, smooth, delicate, sensationable, oozing the form of easy going syrup with enough thickness to soak into the pores of the waffle and drench the buds in flavor as the thickness settles and warms the belly, much like a good breakfast should. I would love to have this stuff for breakfast every day. Although a few of these first thing at the crack of dawn and I may be napping through lunchtime. Is there a lunch stout? Anyways, this is unbelievably drinkable. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a yummy snack; you name the time and I’d drink this f*ckin’ stuff no prob. Holy yummifingly delish man!

On tap at the Brewpub. OUT OF THIS WORLD!! so so nice in a sniffter, black with some beigeish foam. nose is oak, vanilla, coffee, chocolate and bourbon. Flavour is this and more. wish it was still in bottles but tap was fantastic.. this is the ber i was given when i told kevin my bartender "I was in his hands"

Black in color with a decent sized dark brown head. Aroma is dark roast coffee, roasted malts, dark chocolate, leather, oak, bourbon and earth. Taste is coffee, oatmeal, dark chocolate, bourbon and oak.

[08 bottle sampled 3.17.08] Pours somewhat thick black with a small wispy brown head. Strong aroma of ground coffee, some alcohol, oak and earth/dirt. Bitter! wow thick black coffee, gritty, some vanilla in the finish. A little more one-dimensional than I was expecting, but way smooth and drinkable. Roasted/burned coffee beans. Pretty dry for the style, and I like that. I see where it gets its name from though, this’ll wake ya up and really strong coffee flavor. Reminds me slightly of Olfabrikken Porter, but more drinkable. "A hint of coffee..." is a bit of an understatement. The bourbon shows up in the finish... but must be at room temperature. 8.4.9.5.18 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [rerate spring 08 bottle enjoyed 10.29.09] Pours a shinny obsidian color with a fizzy foamy mocha head. Aroma of stale coffee beans, hard roast, bourbon is very faint, dirty coffee filter, some light vanilla and a touch of booze. The 09 bottles seem to be way more barrel forward. The bourbon and barrel only really linger in the aftertaste, slight burn. Flavor follows, corse coffee, lots of bitter dark creamy chocolate. Medium/full bodied, creamy, with corse sizzling carbonation that is slightly distracting 4.5. I think I prefer regular breakfast stout! I am actually pleased that this held up as well as it did.. 8.4.8.4.17

Aroma dominated by oak. For the flavor, imagine that you have passed out after a night of drinking bourbon and you wake up face down, with your tongue out on an oak deck on which someone had spilled their coffee. But in a good way.
