Commercial Description:
A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

Black body with a huge light brown head; Huge very interesting nose, it reminds me so much of a well made whiskey filled piece of chocolate: really dense cocoa- bean aroma, dense fruity whiskey aroma, I think it is the very apparent alcohol that gives it this fruity touch, there are also coffee bean and a little not fitting oxidization; Soft fitting carbonation, soft texture, bitter sharp, sweet and a little salty balanced body; Long super dense finish, almost like condensed beer, the bitterness grows a bit and becomes almost woody like harsh, beautiful sweet aromas, lots of chocolate, red berries, coffee. Great beer! Thanks Walt.

Pours a pitch black color with a brown head. Aroma is of chocolate, coffee and lots of bourbon. Flavor is of a lot of bourbon but smoothed out by vanilla and chocolate flavors. This stuff is extremely viscus

Bottle, received in a trade. Black pour, very inactive with no head. Aroma is ginger root, licorice, strange wood, bourbon w/ light vanilla, and roasted malt. Flavor is somewhat sweet caramel and chocolate malt, roasted malt, woody alcohol and the same ginger / licorice component from the aroma. It’s a pretty good BA beer.

From a 12oz Bottle. Pours an oily dark black color with a nice layer of toasted brown head. Intensely strong aroma that reeks of charred chubs and stale coffee grounds. My initial aroma reaction upon cracking the twist off was that this brew smelled like a smoked slim jim, which didn’t get me off to a promising start. Upon deeper meditation, I’m realizing its actually more weighted toward raw bourbon, burned Starbucks coffee, and a hint of char. The mouthfeel is a pleasant surprise after the disappointing aroma; rich and creamy and brimming with bourbony vanilla notes. Creamy dark chocolates, roasted coffee, ash, and far too much bourbon for my palate to decipher. Excessively overdone, mixed up, unbalanced roasted coffee bourbon flavors make this a confusing brew overall.

This came from Eithcubes I believe, thanks for hooking me up with this tasty beverage man. Aromas of wood, oak, vanilla as characteristic of a bourbon aged beer. Alcohol bite at first but it gives way to a roasted malt, coffee, and most of all chocolate experience. You are left with a cocoa sort of sweetness on the back of the tongue. Tasty oak aged up front and chocolate on the finish. What more can you ask for from a style like this or beer in general?

I had this at the Michigan Beer Fest. Lots of folks like it. But I’m not so sure. It leaves an intense taste in your mouth. If you want to taste only this beer for the next few hours, fine. But I don’t play that way.

12oz - Aroma is fresh coffee, bourbon, roasted malts, chocolate, and dust. Pours black with no head and good lacing. Flavor is roasted chocolate malts, hops, fresh coffee, and a touch of bourbon. The bourbon increses to the point of too much as it warms. Palate is amazingly clean for a barrel-aged imperial stout. Hides the 10% very well. This is a tasty brew but the bourbon becomes too much for my enjoyment.

Pours pitch black with a minimal head. Aroma of coffee and some bourbon. Lots of coffee flavor up front, followed by alcohol, malt, chocolate, and a vanilla finish. Tough to improve on the regular Breakfast Stout, but they figured out a way. Amazing stuff.
