| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 13, 2006 12 oz bottle. Pours like motor oil. Deep, dark black/brown color with a light brown head. The aroma is nothing if not chocolate covered espresso beans. Period. The flavor is strong and just like the aroma suggests. Chocolate covered espresso beans. Nicely bitter like coffee with strong alcohol undertones. Great sweetness. Yum! Medium body with a creamy finish and a bitter ashy aftertaste. This really beats you over the head with one flavor (chocolate covered espresso beans) but it does it well. alobar (1032), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 19, 2009 Black color with a tan head. Aroma of bourbon, coffee, wood, chocolate, and roasted malts. Needs to warm. Flavor of coffee, chocolate, roasted malts and a fine bourbon finish. Easily one of the best ever. Lowe1983 (1029), Fairborn, Ohio, USA

Huge chocolate and bourbon aroma with notes of coffee, caramel, wood, and alcohol. Very thick palate with a strong bourbon and coffee flavors with notes of chocolate, caramel, and sweet malts. A slight alcohol finish. Yet again, another delicious Founder’s brew. ChillCoat (1029), Concord, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 8, 2007 Bottle via trade with AlohaC. Pours (at 55degrees) a thick black with only a hint of a tan head that dissipates quickly then I set it aside to come up to room temp before drinking. Thick, Folgers Coffee grounds aroma with chocolate, vanilla and bourbon. Thick and hot. Bitter chocolate, coffee, bourbon, vanilla and charcoal. Dry and musty. An amazingly complex flavor. Very fruity at the end as well. I don’t really care for the (almost stale) coffee in the aroma but I really enjoy the beer. estoppel (1028), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 8, 2007 Bottle. Black body, small dense tan head, woody nose with a healthy splash of bourbon and chocolate notes. Very strong whisky flavors, with coffee/chocolate very much in the background, and some burnet roastiness. Not for everyone, but I enjoyed it greatly. Mangino (1027), Mississippi, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 2, 2006 Oooo yeaaaa! Giggity Giggity Gig gig Giggity goooo! Thanks JPDipso, you the man.. Pours a pitch black color, small light brown head. Aroma is huge coffee, a monsterous prescense. Bourbon comes right behind nad gives it a strong kick and balance. Drinking is sweet and smooth. Robust coffee flavors come through strong, yet still balancing out the bourbon, chocolate, and other elements. Really a fantastic beer. If only they would of made more! | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 6, 2006 Black coffee pour with a mocha colored, creamy head. Fresh coffee dominates the nose, but secondary notes of oak and vanilla do squeak through. Full mouthfeel is oily slick, but never too sweet or cloying. The great thing about the body is that keeps evolving from first sip to far past the finish. Starts with an upfront wall of java, moving to a woody and smokey middle and finishing with bourbon and sweet chocolate. The alcohol warms my stomach and the bourbon lingers on the tongue. Oh boy, this is good stuff. badnewsbeers (1026), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Apr 4, 2005 Updated: Apr 12, 2006rerate sampled at mich beer fest in lansing...this beer was phenomenal....aroma was of chocolate, coffee, caramelized sugars, raison, with a solid bourbon backbone...flavor was just as amazing....subtle bourbon that complements the coffee, chocolate, vanilla, molasses, and nutty characteristics involved....a delightful treat!! may even outmatch its sibling, the regular bfast stout
kentucky bf 03’ on tap at founders (special for the black beer party)...black appearance with thin brown head...a very sweet sugary smell, with strong hints of chocolate and coffee....a great roastiness to the flavor..heavy in chocolate and coffee...a sweeter beer than its counterpart in the original bfast....a great beer, but not as good as its predecessor 8 4 8 3 15
