Commercial Description:
A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

Dark with a deep tan head. Strong bourbon aroma with some chocolate, molasses, and dirt. Smooth bourbon and roasted malts in the flavor with light cocoa, and that damn dirt again. The body is perfect for the flavor. The bourbon is a little harsh in this one but I’m sure another couple years in the cellar will fix that.

Opens with no audible indicator of escaping carbonation. Pours placid reddish black like spent transmission fluid. Aroma is heavy coffee, with chocolate. Taste is heavy on the coffee, but quite pleasant. The character turns bourbon vanilla as it warms. Mouthfeel is thinner than expected, and carbonation is predictably low, which is good. $6/12oz

bottle poured into a snifter has a dark black color and a nice thick brown head that became a coating. aroma initially is overpowering on the bourbon but settles back after a minute. coffee, malt, baking chocolate, and plenty of charred wood. mouth feel is rich and coating with low carbonation. flavor has bitter burnt coffee, dark and chocolate malt, barrel wood, and bourbon. this version overpowers the beauty the oats add in the regular breakfast stout removing some subtleties. charred barrel and bourbon are great but really powerhouse. don’t get me wrong this is exceptional and very enjoyable.

Super dark pour with a small, near brown head that is gone in a flash and only leaves a thin galaxy swirl atop the beer and little if any lacing. The initial aroma is chocolate. That’s followed by mild coffee and definite bourbon. The flavor is chocolate with mild coffee and some nice bourbon. The bourbon melds nicely with the coffee and chocolate, but this beer isn’t as dramatic as regular breakfast stout IMHO. I found it to be a very drinkable, very well made beer that didn’t have the aggressive stance found in BS, it was more relaxed, more sophisticated. The mouthfeel was very nice and the alcohol didn’t assert itself at all.

12oz. bottle. Opaque black with a thin film of dark tan head. Heavy coffee and dark chocolate aroma, hints of alcohol and bourbon. Vanilla, tannins, and chocolately coffee flavors. Some alcohol heat in the finish, with some woodiness. Mouthfeel is heavy, lusterous and thick.

Bottle courtesy of Silphium. This beer has it all- huge chocolate, smoke, coffee, vanilla, oak, bourbon, caramel, coconut, and toffee flavors. Wow, this is a great beer. Possibly the best stout I’ve ever had. A different taste in every drink.

Very smooth, thick pour. Opague black body with a dark brown head. The aroma is rich chocolate coffee, mild bourbon and brownie batter. Flavor is baker’s chocolate, rich coffee, and milk chocolate covered raisins. Finishes with a strong bourbon/perfumy hop taste with some vanilla and dryish oak hints. I had this one time before and was quite disappointed. This one made up for it.

Pours a deep dark chocolate brown - very nearly black - with a thin wisp of film in the center of the glass, and a bit of a ring around the edges. This ring initially provides a foam line or two, but shortly thereafter only a few flecks of lace. The aroma is fantastic - tons of roasted malt, charred oak, coffee, and chocolate covered cherry. Bold flavors of burnt coffee, bitter roasted malt, and charred smoky oak. And bourbon. And raisin. And leather. And molasses. And maduro cigar wrapper. Full body, the carbonation is gentle, but definately not lacking. Burnt raisin, bourbon, oak, and Honduran cigar smoke linger in the aftertaste. So does a trace of alcohol
