Commercial Description:
A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

Very smooth, thick pour. Opague black body with a dark brown head. The aroma is rich chocolate coffee, mild bourbon and brownie batter. Flavor is baker’s chocolate, rich coffee, and milk chocolate covered raisins. Finishes with a strong bourbon/perfumy hop taste with some vanilla and dryish oak hints. I had this one time before and was quite disappointed. This one made up for it.

Pours a deep dark chocolate brown - very nearly black - with a thin wisp of film in the center of the glass, and a bit of a ring around the edges. This ring initially provides a foam line or two, but shortly thereafter only a few flecks of lace. The aroma is fantastic - tons of roasted malt, charred oak, coffee, and chocolate covered cherry. Bold flavors of burnt coffee, bitter roasted malt, and charred smoky oak. And bourbon. And raisin. And leather. And molasses. And maduro cigar wrapper. Full body, the carbonation is gentle, but definately not lacking. Burnt raisin, bourbon, oak, and Honduran cigar smoke linger in the aftertaste. So does a trace of alcohol

12 oz bottle courtesy of secret Santa. Pours an opaque black with a small tan head. The aroma is strong with smoky spices, wood, bourbon, coffee and a touch of alcohol. Flavor is almost all bourbon, there is also dark biter chocolate and coffee rounding out the sides. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. The finish is medium in duration with lingering dark chocolate and whiskey. Overall: A superbly well crafted beer, my congrats to the guys in Grand Rapids.

Groan. Another beer that could not possibly live up to the hype, and didn’t. I’ll put it right next to Sexual Chocolate on my shelf. When I tasted this I thought... tastes like a bourbon stout. That was it. My head didn’t explode.

Bottle from a trade with Daknole. Viscous black pour with brown head. Aromas of burnt malts, bourbon, oak and vanilla. Lots of bourbon and it only gets stronger as it warms. Oak and vanilla flavors are also pretty strong. Full body with minimal carbonation and a slick, creamy mouthfeel. Very nice. Thanks Dak.

In a nutshell I described drinking this as sipping an alcoholic chocolate milkshake. 12oz bottle pours a thick, oily, opaque black with a thin, creamy brown head. Aroma is roasted, black coffee, burnt toast, vanilla, oak, cherries, bourbon whiskey, chocolate and rum. Flavor is awesome, smoke, cherries, vanilla, milk chocolate, oak, barbeque, brown sugar, dark rum, whiskey, coffee with cream and sugar, and sweet caramel. Heavy, sticky mouthfeel with a surprisingly sweet, thick finish. Awesome, no doubt about it. Might be the best bourbon aged beer made.

bottle bought with much anticipation! coffee and bourbon aromas pour out even before i’ve tilted the bottle - additional aromas associated with bourbon show up: vanilla, woody oak, and alcohol as well, but to a slightly lesser extent. some sweet malt, although those aromas are more of an afterthought. very little carbonation, oily like i like my stouts. flavor is sweet and alcoholic, giving way to some coffee and roasty astringency. hot finish, i suppose because of the alcohol lent to the beer from the barrel, but aside from the apparent alcohol finish, this is a well-done barrel-aged stout - not over-the-top.

Enjoyed with grassrootsVT at 4 am after he helped me fix my toilet with a knife, a nail, and some silicon... Appears a pitch black with a 2 finger high, tan head. Tons of lacing is left around the glass. Smell is of coffee grounds, cocoa, fresh espresso beans, roasted nuts, creamy vanilla. Taste is of the mentioned aromas with a huge nod to ground coffee and not enough of the oak, or bourbon going on as anticipated. Mouthfeel is medium/full bodied, rich, huge coffee, sweet, creamy, with a grainy, biscuity feel in the swallow. Personally, I enjoyed the regular Breakfast Stout more. Maybe it was the bottle? I’ve heard these have differed.
