Commercial Description:
A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

Poured from a 12oz bottle and served in a snifter. This beer poured an almost opaque black with just a few rays of light seeping through around the edges of the glass. A thin head of tan foam lasted throughout, leaving some thick lace. The aroma of the beer was made up of a heavy dose of strong coffee, chocolate, smoke, burnt malt, and just a hint of bourbon. The flavor consisted of sweet chocolate, vanilla, espresso roast coffee, and a very nice, mellow bourbon flavor. The bourbon was not overpowering or in the way, just complimentary to the other flavors. The mouthfeel was full-bodied and slightly sticky. Very light carbonation. A really nice imperial stout that uses barrel aging to add another layer of flavor...not overtake the base beer. Like a cup of strong coffee with a nip of whiskey.

Bottle from a trade with Daknole. Viscous black pour with brown head. Aromas of burnt malts, bourbon, oak and vanilla. Lots of bourbon and it only gets stronger as it warms. Oak and vanilla flavors are also pretty strong. Full body with minimal carbonation and a slick, creamy mouthfeel. Very nice. Thanks Dak.

After two years, I finally was able to track down a 4pk of this stuff. Man, it was worth the wait. Glugs out a deep-dark black with dark brown head. "Boy, this beer sher has a perty mouth!" Aroma is of a camp fire intertwined with a Backwoods cigar. Damn this smells good. Lots of oak, vanilla, bourbon, charred wood being devoured by my nostrils. The aroma is truly hypnotic. Well the aroma definitely lets you know what you are in for as I picked up a deep oak flavor, charred wood, vanilla, slight tobacco, some chocolate and coffee. Carbonation is subtle but that’s a good thing as it definitely doesn’t need to be strong to allow the beer to be enjoyed. Finishes just a tad bitter and has some slight alcohol warmth otherwise it’s damn near perfect.

Bottle. Super opaque dark brown with a light brown head, good lacing. A very woody barrel character to the malty smell. Very bourbony, woody taste. Roasty dryness, but pretty one dimensional. Palate is full and creamy.

Bottle courtesy of Awiseman01. Pours a pitch black oil with thin brown head. Nose is full of chocolate, bourbon, coffee, and a hint of coconut. Flavors follow the nose with the bourbon becoming more predominate. Also some notes of vanilla, caramel, and oak. Mouth is creamy and a little on the hot side but not an unpleasant hot. Excellent RIS, a must drink for any bourbon lover.

Big thanks to Dan for breaking this one out at the Columbus tasting #6.Lots of coffee and some nice bourbon in the aroma.Pours very dark with a medium sized tan head.Chocolate,coffee and bourbon dominate the flavors.Full mouthfeel with lots of coffee and bourbon in the finish.

bottle from ’08. Pours a deep brown nearly black. Vanilla, coffee, whiskey, roast malts, sweet, some mild spice nose. Flavor is a rich coffee, lots of roast, chocolate, bourbon. oily full mouthfeel. Bourbon lingers all the way through. Great beer.

What a wonderful brew! Pours opaque black into the glass, with a thinning tan ring (due to the ABV at work). The nose contains coffee, whiskey, and some dark chocolates. The flavors follow much in tow, rich, malty, with a thick, silky mouthfeel. Lots of coffee beans, bourbon (without being boozy), bitter dark chocolates, molasses, slight legumes, and licorice. Finish concentrates on the licorice and coffee notes, with nice infusions of vanilla and cloves... a nice hint of alcohol to close the effervescence. This is extremely complex, and a wonderful quaff! Great, just superb.
