Commercial Description:
A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

(35.5cl bottle) Pitch black colour with a creamy beige layer. Strong roast-malty aroma with a smoky touch, notes of (burnt) wood and a tinge of vanilla and alcohol. Burnt bitter flavour with a moderate oaky sweetness, full bodied with a mellow mouthfeel. Roasty malty taste with chocolate, leather, mocha and a distinctive touch of vanilla. Long-lasting roasty and slightly woody finish with vanilla, mocha and a mild, well-integrated alcoholic burn. Also the barrel notes of vanilla fit very well. Superb (09.IV.09).

There’s Bourbon through every step of enjoying this stout, but never to the point of being overbearing. It pours like chocolate syrup with a light brown ring that doesn’t last the drink. Who cares? The aroma is Bourbon, coffee, milk chocolate, vanilla, roasted barley, and oak. The sturdy abv is pretty well masked, but the ale warms starting with the first sip. Smooth palate, and the chocolate becomes a bit more pronounced in the flavor. It finishes on a slightly bitter note, the Bourbon prominent, with the mildest of alcohol burns. Very, very good.

Silky thick black liquid slides into the glass and created only a thin lid of gleaming brown bubbles. Strong coffee, roasted barley and dark chocolate in the aroma. A nice aroma, but for me nothing that is overly complex. Much like some of the IIPAs for hopheads, this is a stout for the stouties. LIght vanilla on the front of the palate. This is smooth and oh so rich in feel. Smooth bourbon, light vanilla and a rich chocolate flavors bounces about the mouth. A touch of toasted coconut and almond give a mild almond joy flavor. Easily quaffable. Much more enjoyable than the breakfast stout, for me. Rick, thick smooth and chocolaty. This is a beer stout shake with just a hint of bourbon that tickles the senses and is alluring and enticing. A wonderful brew.

Dusseldorf Gathering, Bottled. Strong aroma of coffee and vanilla with varnish although only (?) 10%. Black color, small light brown head, few lace. Sweet, coffee, varnish, moccha, vanilla, chocolate, black currant and more. Too much to mention, very complex. I think it’s even unbalanced because all of these flavors.

Bottle: Pours a dark black color, thick tan head, large bubbles and a nice muddy appearance. The nose is coffee, rich semi-spent grounds, nice oak character and some light dry alkaline notes. The flavor is oaky, light briny wood and plum, vanilla, roast and ample thick coffee. Bitter espresso with the bite of straight but the body of breve. Interesting, but good. I’m not a fan of that type of roast in the nose and an astringent tail. Thanks Jake65!

Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has roasted malty coffee aroma with hints of chocolate and some hints of vanilla. Roasted malty chocolate and coffee flavor with some hints of bourbon and vanilla. Has a rosted malty coffee finish with hint of bourbon and vanilla in the aftertaste.

Huge thanks to Ohio Dad for this one. OD hooked me up with a lot of great beer. This one was ebony with little head. The aroma was dark patent malty, with tons of chocoff, and a big oaky bourbon and molasses smell. The palate was a tad less dense than the Founder’s Breakfast stout, and the flavor was a tad less intense. Having said that, the oaky bourbon was immense, and a real treat. This one went great with a CAO maduro cigar, and it would be well received, I’m certain, by spirits fans. Another marvelous offering from Founders, the brewery that God brews for.
