Thanks a bunch for this one, it was excellent. Aroma of choclate and strong espresso and a little alcohol. If you have ever had chocolate covered espresso beans from Starbucks, that is how this beer finishes. The bourbon flavor was great because it was not overpowering the rest of an already complex beer. Very smooth finish. Great beer. IlanMan (818), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | May 4, 2008 Pour is thick black with a strong bourbon and coffee aroma. Flavor had strong bourbon, coffee bite, light chocolate, medium hops, and a slight burntness. Blended real well making it smooth and hiding the alcohol quite well. There is a finishing taste that I couldn’t quite get. It may have been a little sour, tart, or could have been the coffee. Would buy again for sure. xmarcnolanx (798), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 21, 2008 Huge woody aroma with a nuanced hoppiness coming through the coffee and chocolate malt.
Very dark black/brown with almost no head and scant legs.
Taste is initially creamy wood with a milky vanilla and coffee finish.
Palate is creamy and dense with a nice smooth finish that lingers in its woodiness.
Very straightforward in a lot of ways. This beer is dominated by the oak, which lends a dryness, but contrasts well with the creamy aspects.
World Class.

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 20/20 | Apr 29, 2007 Black as can be, not much of a head, more of a tan foam ring. Burnt malts with hints of vanilla, and maybe a hint of coffee. Not really a whole lot of bourbony barrel stuff in there, which wasn’t a dissapointment. CheersMate1 (794), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

No head, but the small head was a heavy chocolate color. Perfrect looking beer. This is how I love my stouts to look. Huge wood and roast aroma. Not hard to smell at all. Just an amazing aroma, of wood, chocolate. Chocolate is very aromatic. A delicious smell. Wish it had some bourbon smell, but very aromatic. Oh man, perfect flavor. Nice thick chocolate, slight coffee taste, with an awesome bourbon finish. Just a wonderful bourbon taste that lingers. Nice woody taste. A perfectly nuanced beer. Overall, my favorite beer. Nice hop taste mixed in wood that bourbon/wood aftertaste. Let this sucker warm up and it just gets better. I was raised in Kentucky, so this is a providential moment in my life. padrefan98 (788), (San Diego) Santee, California, USA

I poured this way to cold, but once it warmed the flavors were lots of bourbon, roasted malt, some vanilla and black licorice, coffee. Very good. joshwilfong (786), Cleveland, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jun 28, 2009 pitch black with mild tan head. rich nose of vanilla, alcohol, roast, and oak. low carbonation, though a little higher than i expected for the style. some, but mild, crystal sweetness, then some vanilla and oak before some roastiness and some alcohol, which becomes a little much as the brew warms. mild yeasty esters, but a rather dry finish, especially for such a high alcohol beer, the attenuation might be the most impressive aspect of this beer. a good brew, but not overwhelmingly good. probably not worth the money beervana (781), Libertyville, Illinois, USA

Poured opaque black with small white head. Soft carbonation. Roasted coffee nose. Full bodied stout that starts with light malt sweetness and mixture of smoke/roasted coffee/chocolate/raisin flavors. Smooth and creamy in the mouth. Finished with lingering bitterness. Rich, creamy and smooth. Well-balanced. Definite alcohol warmth. Full of flavor, this is one amazing stout.
