Linght bourbon behind it. Nice not overpowering. Bourbon started the flavor but not too much. Plenty of coffee in the flavor. Medium bodied. Ughsmash (4079), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Mar 31, 2006 Updated: Jan 19, 2007Poured black as the darkest of nights... high viscocity with a loose initial mocha/caramel head that receded to a swirly dusting. Aroma as if they bottled up a small slice of heaven (albeit a bit of backwoods heaven with banjos, few teeth, and perhaps a bog)... rich, deeply roasted dark chocolate and Sumatra blend, caramel, molasses, and a perfectly complimentary aire from the barrel treatment (luscious vanilla, oak, and sweet bourbon overtones). All elements are expertly-blended, with nothing stealing the show. Flavors began with strong roasted dark malts (same coffee and chocolate as above... coffee with slightly more prominence)... with the barrel elements emerging somewhere in the middle. Vanilla and bourbon sweetness were well-balanced against the dark, roasty malts and coffee bitterness. Rather heavily-bodied, yet it managed to maintain its smoothness and flow. Coffee bitterness remained long after this masterpiece was consumed... along with feelings of warmth and satisfaction. Just tremendous in all regards!

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 1, 2006 Bourbon is an American taste and while some finds its way over here, it’s simply a novelty. This is a medium or possibly less thick stout. I guess my expectations were primed for the breakfast level of stout. I taste the stout, the bourbon, some roast, a tad coffee. Black body with a very big chocolate coloured head. Chocolatey chalky cocoa aroma with roasty notes of coffee. Very bitter roasty coffee flavour, bourbon is not overly present. Medium bodied palate. Decent but doesn’t knock my socks off. Thanks Harry! Rciesla (3845), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA

Phenominal as i remember it when i had it in July 07 at founders old location. Black Beer, tan head, diminished coffee and moderate amount of bourbon. Amazing. Bottle version is much less impressive though.
Drinking this again, right now. I love this beer! thedm (3836), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 29, 2006 This bottled brew sampled at a rating party in Indianapolis, IN poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized dark brown colored bubbles that left behind a opaque dark brown colored body with no visible carbonation. The aroma was that of strong dark malt and bourbon. The mouth feel was initially flat with a mild vinous finish. The flavor was a mix of coffee dark malt and roasted malts. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 17, 2008 Bottle. [Courtesy of yespr, another great session @ yespr] Small beige creamy head that mostly diminished. Pitch-black colour. Good display of lacework. Aroma of vanilla, liquorish, sweet chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, dried fruit, hint of berries and very vinous in the sniff. Over the palate the bourbon and wood comes through, burned malt, oat dryness. Full bodied with an average carbonation and light dry and thick texture. Heavy sweet and counter bitter notes in balance. Lingering chocolate and light bitter finish.
