Commercial Description:
A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

Bottle courtesy Robert at statelineliquors.com. Pour was black, nice tan chocolate had, slow/delayed developing head just like a fresh Bfast Stout, a pretty pour despite the aging. The head had good retention and great lacing, nice job, Founders! The aroma got me all excited, coffee, oak, light smoke/ash, vanilla, and bourbon, but the latter didn’t overwhelm at all, just a nice beautiful coffee presence and so much other character there. Flvaor was much the same, all things melded together prefectly with a touch barrel aging, nothing dominant, a smooth treat, fabulous. Did I rate the regular breakfast stout highly enough? This stuff rocks! Thank you, my friend, Robert!!! Re-rate, September 07, bottle courtesy of nolankowal: Original rating stands, a fabulously done beer. Thanks, John! Rerate (4/08) in horizontal alongside two vintages (08 and 07) of ST Jah-va and a Peche Mortel bottle x 12oz. Finished right behind the Peche, the bourbon-notes just too strong after leading with the Peche. Still a very well done brew w/ BA’ing. The regular breakfast stout needs to stand up against Peche one day.

Pours motor oil pitch black; thin tan head. Potent coffee bean aroma, just a shade of bourbony sweetness also; wood and perhaps licorice. Flavor - rich, bitter, roasted, awesome bourbon sweetness. Smooth but also aggressive. Hint of whiskyish burn in the finish. Body is surprisingly far from thick. This is what regular breakfast stout wants to be. As delicious as Peche Mortel but with added complexity from the bourbon finishing. Very excellent. I’m very curious if previous years’ batches were even better with the vanilla.

Sampled side by side with the Canadian version. I was happy to see the differences between both, and after all was said and drank the KBS faired better with me. Upfront aroma of strong coffee, burnt malt, and blended whiskey. Notes of chocolate, raisin and nuts came through. Opaque dark brown body with low carbonation, a pencil thin head and spotty lacing. Loved the overall taste of this one, a really strong and robust blend of heavy malts, bittering hops, and smooth whiskey. Typical imperial stout taste that is moved up a level or two across the board. Roasted, burnt grains and plenty of coffee with a woody nutty almost fruity aftertaste. Drinks slow and deserves to be done so. Heavy and good. A wonderful treat.

Picked up at Brawleys in Charlotte, North Carolina. Poured like motor oil, big time! No head, but the small head was a heavy chocolate color. Perfrect looking beer. This is how I love my stouts to look. Huge wood and roast aroma. Not hard to smell at all. Just an amazing aroma, of wood, chocolate. Chocolate is very aromatic. A delicious smell. Wish it had some bourbon smell, but very aromatic. Oh man, perfect flavor. Nice thick chocolate, slight coffee taste, with an awesome bourbon finish. Just a wonderful bourbon taste that lingers. Nice woody taste. A perfectly nuanced beer. Overall, my favorite beer. Nice hop taste mixed in wood that bourbon/wood aftertaste. Let this sucker warm up and it just gets better. I was raised in Kentucky, so this is a providential moment in my life.

this is an amazing beer overall I couldn’t be happier. It is thick like a melted choclate shake in your mouth. its chocolaty, smoky, bitter, malty, every thing I could hope for it was. this was a treat. I could wipe my stout mustache off while drinking this but not my smile, a pure joy to drink.

On tap at Founder’s on release day. Dark black in color with a deep brown head. The aromas were powerful with scents of coffee, milk chocolate, vanilla, oatmeal and bourbon. This continued into a powerful but smooth palate that was complex and extremely well balanced. Not much has to be said about this one other than it this truly was wonderful!
