Intense rich nose of used espresso grounds and black chocolate that float on a soft wave of caramel, burnt ashy wood, vanilla, and a faint bourbonesque tone. The flavor is just as nice and generally mirrors the aroma. The barrel is expertly used here for complementing, not overwhelming. Full bodied, soft carbonation, bittersweet finish. Fan-f’in-tastic! | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 10, 2006 Thick, heavy, coffee- and bourbon-filled aroma. Very meaty. Great full-bodied flavor too. Nearly no head at all. Slightly astringent in the finish and highly oily. Obviously agened in bourbon barrels, but the bourbon flavor is not over-powering. MAP (1089), Lakewood, Ohio, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 4, 2009 On tap at the Beer Engine in Lakewood 8-2-09. Served in a glass mug, which at $2.00 for the glass, it was quite a bargain...unlike the beer. At like $9.00, it was well worth it honestly. The aroma is rather relaxed, notes of coffee are well hidden with the vanilla and oak scents. The flavor is equally relaxed, but the coffee is still there. It has this amazing buttery-nutty taste to the coffee flavor, not the burnt coffee flavor that is often in the big stouts. It really has mellowed nicely and doesn’t come off ’hot’ at all, even for the 11.2% which snuck up on me like the Hillside Strangler. mkobes (2104), paramus, New Jersey, USA

Appearance: black, whispy tan head
Aroma: huge ashy coffee aroma with sweet bourbon character
Flavor: big sweet bourbon flavor, lots of roasted character, huge coffee, good balance between the roasted and the bourbon
Name: Kentucky Breakfast
Date: May 06, 2006
Mode: bottle
Appearance: sweet malt or bourbon aroma fills the air as soon as you pop but upon insertion of nose into glass it becomes all ash that eventually fades (or saturates) revealing the sweet bourbon, bits of lace
Flavor: thick sweet bourbon is the initial flavor impression, good rich and chewey chocolate comes through strong, coffee character is well balanced, very drinkable for a 10% beer as it only has a hint of any alcohol, deserves a higher score as it is best in its class, but it is in the second best class (behind Belgian quads)

Aroma is a perfect blend of the traditional coffee aromas, burnt malts, roastiness, some chocolate and then balanced with lots of bourbon but not too much. Slightly sweet flavor but cut by the harsh acidity of the burnt malts, roasted coffee, bourbon and a fair amount of oak and vanilla. Real nice harsh rich dark malts all the way through and is so damn smooth. Great BA impy stout. hopscotch (5483), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
