Commercial Description:
A bit of backwoods pleasure without the banjo. This strong stout is brewed with a hint of coffee and vanilla then aged in oak bourbon barrels. Our process ensures that strong bourbon undertones come through in the finish in every batch we brew. We recommend decanting at room temperature and best enjoyed in a brandy snifter.

Bottle...DLD’06... This beer rocks!... Pitch black ale with a small, creamy, brown head. Light bourbon, heavy coffee, chocolate and oak in the nose. The flavor is a swirl of coffee beans, chocolate, bourbon, vanilla and oak. Full-bodied and ultra-silky with soft carbonation. Finishes rich and chocolaty. World class beer!

Had this on tap at the Founders tap room. It was dark and late at night so I could not fully evaluate color or head. Served in a snifter at proper temperature and it had a great aroma with the hints of Bourbon that mix nicely with chocolate and roasts. Flavor was excellent with subtle bourbon, a bit of chocolate, some curants and roasted malts but my current standard for an Imperial Stout is the Goose Island Bourbon County stout and though this is excellent, falls a little short of the Goose Island. Excellent beer.

12 oz. bottle from drewbeerme. Pours thick, black and opaque with a thin tannish head that leaves a trace of lace. Bold roasty coffee aroma, a bit of charcoal initially with boubon undertones. Flavor features more coffee, bitter chocolate, rich bourbon and vanilla, tannic notes, alcohol nicely balanced with sweet, tart and astringent flavors, then a slight puckery aftertaste. Full body, very smooth - like liquid silk - and rich creamy carbonation. A real treat.

Strong aroma of bourbon, malt, and chocolate. Pours black with a brown, bubbly head. Thick mouth feel. Flavor of bourbon, smoke, chocolate, caramel, coffee. Holy crap that’s a heavy breakfast!

Thanks to Mike Mac for this one. Wanted to save it but I just couldn’t. Pours out deep black with a very small tan head. Aroma hits you with big notes of chocolate, bourbon and coffee. Very nice thick, but not too thick mouthfeel. Taste tells of bourbon, but is not over the top. Notes of roasted malts, chocolate and coffee add to the amazing cast of flavors in this beer. More subtle notes of lingering oak, vanilla and smoked malts with some dry fruit and earthy tastes on the finish. A true monster of a beer thanks a bunch for this one man!!!

Huge thanks to my Secret Santa (pantanap) for this treasure. It’s like draining my Xterra’s oil...a very still pitch black with the shyest of heads. Huge coffee nose with roasted malt, bourbon and vanilla oak. Wow...what a great beer. Wonderfully creamy body that showcases bourbon heat, roasted coffee, dark chocolate, charred oak and brandy on the finish. Lovely.

12 oz. bottle. Originally sampled this at the World Beer Festival with alexanderj and kleyland back in 2007. Glad to finally get a proper rating. Dark black pour with a thin, light tan head. Small amount of lacing. Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, bourbon, and vanilla. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Flavor is really nice and balanced. The roasted malts, coffee, and bourbon notes blend together perfectly. Finish is charred oak, with a nice boozy hint. Really nice beer for a cold evening.

Poured black with a thin mocha head. Not much retention but still an attractive appearance. Hints of bourbon, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, caramel and maple syrup came into the aroma and taste. Palate was near perfect but could have used a bit more thickness. Salty finish. Overall a really well done stout!
