Aroma of bourbon, malt and vanilla extract. Taste of coffee, caramel amd molasses. The flavor is silky smooth and smokey. Has a nice creamy chocolate start with a bit of earthy finish. Very nice brew! HonkeyBra (1376), Lemont, Illinois, USA

Nice, motor oil pour. Jet black, with no head, just a ring around the glass that clings and laces. Aroma is coffee, then some chocolate, all with a boozy bourbony undertone. Flavor is sweet, chocolatey with lots of coffee. The bourbon is very understated and lovely, lends a nice vanilla and oak character. Absolutely loved this one. Dark brownish black. Head is touch, but retention is okay.
Coffee and malts, with chocolate notes. It’s quite reminiscent of a Coffee Crisp bar (more familiar to the Canadians, I believe, though it can be found in the US, as well). A nice blend of the two.
Very deep roasted malts and coffee flavours. Some bitterness and a touch of astringency that stings a little. A creamy mouthfeel and light on the carbonation... almost like heavily creamed coffee in some ways.
Tasty, and somewhat candy line in some ways. The coffee flavours might be a little on the artificial side, but definitely taste great. I’d happily have it again, though it’s almost sinful.

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 31, 2009 Awesome beer. Had an aged one that was dull and lifeless, but fresh its fantastic. Had a bit of a tongue depressor woodiness to it that took away from it, but other than that it was near flawless. Well hidden alcohol and insanely smooth. The bourbon is present but no nearly as overpowering as Bourbon County Stout.
Well worth the effort. nickd717 (1394), Palo Alto, California, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 19, 2009 Bottle thanks to Arbitrator on BA. This beer owns something fierce, almost but not quite equall to the legendary Canadian Breakfast Stout. Pours a viscous, oily jet black with a small, creamy tan head that leaves a ring around the glass. This has legs like a Swedish bikini model, i.e. they’re very good. Aroma is coffee, roast, chocolate, and high-quality Kentucky bourbon. Flavor is coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt that adds a little sweetness, vanilla, oak, and of course loads of bourbon. Not too much though. Almost but not quite as good as Goose Island Bourbon County Stout. A little boozy, but certainly not unpleasantly so...or maybe I was just too drunk to notice (and you can’t blame me since we had all three Breakfast Stout incarnations at this tasting + other awesome stuff). Palate is smooth, creamy, and oily with low carbonation. Overall this is a top-notch imperial stout. kiefdog (1639), Tampa, Florida, USA

Pours a muddy dark brown to black with a thin tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, coffee, some notes of caramel, honey, and molasses. Flavor is roasted and malty with notes of vanilla, bourbon, wood, coffee, chocolate, some hints of caramel and honey. Generally medium to full body with a pleasing malty finish. paiste2002 (158), Saugus, California, USA

Flavor is much the same. Huge bourbon, chocolate, coffee, oak, vanilla and more bourbon in the finish. This is a huge wonderful beer, I would love to have more of this sitting in the fridge, what a treat! An amazing beer!

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 30, 2008 Thanks to a friend for picking up an 07 4-pack of this in Indiana for me. A vigorous pour into my glass leaves a one inch dark, oily mocha colored head that fades to some lacing. This one is pitch black. The smell is coffee grounds, cocoa, slight bourbon/vanilla and astringent oakiness. Flavor is much of the same with a huge hit of coffee and oakiness followed by a smooth chocolate and bourbon finish. So Texture is velvety smooth. Alcohol is slightly present at the finish with a slight burn in the back of the throat but it also warms the belly. Compared to fresh I much prefer the aged smell and flavor; the fresh was much more coffee centric and a year+ on this one has allowed more character to come forward and made it much more balanced and flavorful.
