Very dark pour, nice dark brownish tan head. Intense taste, as I have come to expect from Founders beer on tap. It was chocolaty and fruity, as well as a big coffee flavor. Great flavor.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 1, 2010 Poured flat black with no head and just a couple of bubbles.
Nose was awesome, smelled like a dusty book and jalapenos. Not what I would normally call a good nose on an RIS, but certainly pleasing and unique.
Taste was thin, beer lacked depth in character, hints of roasted barley and chocolate malt, but dominated by booziness and bourbon. Not too much oak character shined through, no real earthy or vanilla flavors, it tasted slightly remedial with a load of bourbon to cover up what I have to assume is a fairly bland beer. | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Dec 31, 2009 Pours very dark, almost black, with some dense tan foam. This beer is very thick like cream -- wonderful mouthfeel. Reminds me of Holland’s Dragon Milk (at brewpub) but much better. Some vanilla, coffee, and chocolate. Great stuff. yngwie (5079), Kristiansand, Norway
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Dec 31, 2009 Bottle, 12oz. It pours a really dark brown body, topped by a small, creamy, brown head. Tar, some smoke, charcoal, hints of alcohol and a little vanilla in the aroma. And mocha coffee. The flavor is really divine, with mocha, charcoal, some vanilla and bourbon. Smooth and silky as can be, full-bodied, warming and dry. Even the finish is lovely, with a fine coffee-like bitterness. A true beauty. 090925 KawaBomber (213), New Jersey, USA
| 4.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Dec 20, 2009 12oz Bottle: Pours opaque black w/ a small, creamy dark brown head. Beautiful beer. Aroma is bourbon, coffee, chocolate, a little smoke/ash & just a touch of vanilla. Wow! Flavor is just as intense as the aroma. Huge coffee flavor w/ chocolate, oats & a nice bourbon undertone. Very robust beer, thick & creamy mouthfeel w/ a long drawn out coffee finish. Amazing beer, very hard to believe this is over 11%...I haven’t had a beer this well put together in a very long time. Bravo Founders! kosko20 (323), Bemidji, Minnesota, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 13, 2009 Bottle from a trade with Daknole. Viscous black pour with brown head. Aromas of burnt malts, bourbon, oak and vanilla. Lots of bourbon and it only gets stronger as it warms. Oak and vanilla flavors are also pretty strong. Full body with minimal carbonation and a slick, creamy mouthfeel. Very nice. Thanks Dak. BVery (671), Burnsville, Minnesota, USA

I was pleasantly surprised with this one. The aroma was a pleasing blend of bourbon, mocha, and vanilla. Nothing overpowering or unpleasant about it. Taste was really nice too. Had a little kick to it that I want to say was a little higher hop content than other bourbon stouts. Great brew
