As far as Founder’s brews go, this one falls on its face. It was a fairly generic pale ale. Not too complex, not too much pepper or spice, which I was expecting given the name.

Tap at Founder’s. Orange-gold pour with a small ring of white lace. The aroma is sweet citrus, honey, toffee, and black pepper. Notes of orange and lemon hit the tongue first, followed briefly by some biscuit and caramel malt and then some jalapeno, black pepper and heat really builds. Sticky, medium body with a fair amount of carbonation.

Drinking from a Growler that I got filled up at Founders. Pours an orange color with a tint of brown, some white head. Aroma of hops and cracked peppercorns. Hops stand out in this one with a spicy peppery finish. Not bad, but doesn’t even come close to some of the other Founders brews.

On tap at Founders. Lots of cracked pepper in the aroma, pour is a light gold. Some honey circles the aroma and flavor both, with a hint of citrus. It all seems to crash together and not come off very well. Not diggin it at all.

On tap at Founders. Pour a gold with a little head and intriguing aromas of pepper and a little citrus. Flavor falls a little short, though as the sweetness of a honey malt presence doesn’t play nicely off the pepper presence and the two just kind of collide.

Tap@ Founders on 5/22/09. A hazy golden color body with a small frothy white head, spotty lacing. Aroma is spicy and slightly citrusy, hints of sweet bready malt.Flavor is lightly sweet, with herbal notes, some pepper and hints of citrus, a little of the malt as it warms, oily feel, light body, medium carbonation. This was not bad in any way but not something I would get on a regular basis, a fun try. Thank you Founders

tap at the brewpub last weekend...medium apple cider brown pour with a thin soapy white head... aroma was heavy on the pepper with a moderate citrus hop backdrop... light citrus and grappy hop flavor with additional white peppar notes. decent mouthfeel. couldn’t have too much of this though.

Draft at brewpub. Poured clear orange color with an average white frothy head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate green chili and small hop aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Warm chili and small bitter flavor and medium bitter finish of moderate duration. Interesting and my expectations were met.
