Commercial Description:
Dark, Rich, and Sexy. Chocolate malts and four varieties of hops make this a very full flavored ale.

12 oz bottle, from miketd. Pours a very dark brown body with a nice one finger frothy dark brown head that left some nice lacing. Great depth to the nose, lots of milk and bitter chocolate, roast, coffee, licorice, and a good bit of hops as well. The hops grab me up front with dry roasty and chocolate malt taking over towards the back end. A good deal of licorice and burnt malt lingering. I like this, but it’s not among my favorite Porters. Too roasty and burnt, I want something more chocolaty and less hoppy. Mouthfeel is is medium bodied with a very dry, almost ashy feel to it. And to think that I wanted this for so long? It’s a bit of a disappointment.

One of,the best Porters I’ve had. The nose is brimming with warm chocolate, espresso grounds, and a touch of licourice. Through the palate the same thread of cocao powder and roasted malt found in the breweries more powerful dark offerings can be found. This porter gives the up front impression of weight and holds, as the round body offers a degree of polish. As we finish the palate lightens up gradually as the bubbles give this beer and uncanny lift. Warm chocolate, slight mission fig sweetness and hop spice linger. 95

Dark brown with a large brown head that leaves some lacing behind. Aroma of coffee, roasted and sweet malts, licorice and a touch of smoke and caramel. Taste of roasted malts, coffee, black licorice, dark malts and peat. Western Michigan once again churns out another stellar dark beer!

Impressive porter, a great beer start to finish. Rich brown body with a 1/4" swirling head and a spotty coat of lacing. Heavy aroma of black licorice, chocolate, cream and some underlying hops. Medium to thick bodied with a blunt bitterness and a fair sweetness. Extremely robust with plenty of burnt and roasted malt flavors. Chocolate, coffee and black strap molasses. Some noticeable hop flavor. One of my new favorite porters.

bottle poured a black in color with a thick frothy tan head that retained well. aroma has rich dark malt, brown sugar, chocolate, and light alcohol. medium mouth feel with low carbonation but it coats well. flavor has rich chewy chocolate malt, pokes of bitterness from the hops, brown sugar sweetness, nuts, and a touch of roasted coffee. rich and creamy but the flavors are balanced and soft.

black with white head. strong malts to the nose. low carbonation. some hop bitterness to start followed by strong black and chocolate malt presence that is balanced by a lot of low crystal malts to provide some sweetness. some hop flavor present, but nothing too evident. some fruity esters makes me consider a possible english ale yeast. flaws: maybe a little too much chocolate malt, resulting in a little too much chocolate towards the end. great porter though.

Pours a light tan head with a dark brown body. Smells of dark roasted coffee. Flavor is coffee, roasted, hint of anise and chocolate. Flavor is thin compared to the aroma. Palate is dry.
