Lots of big rich coffee and chewy fudgey malts. Sweet and cocoaish with lots of soft light fruitiness. There is a light chewy herbal hoppiness but mostly lots of rich sweet rich chocolate and a light cherry character. It’s another really tasty beer. porterhouse (1163), Alna, Maine, USA

Pours a viscous-looking very dark brown, nearly black, basically opaque, two sturdy fingers of mocha-tinted head. Aroma of milk and dark chocolate with a hint of molasses. Mouthfeel smooth, lightly fizzy, fairly thick. Flavor of semi-sweet dark and milk chocolate over some coffee. Hints of grassiness sneak in toward finish. Overall a very solid porter and one of the best American versions I’ve had. beerbill (1977), Laurel, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 27, 2009 12 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with pnista. Pours black with a moderate brown head that lasted through mid-glass and left a thin layer of foam with each sip. The aroma of this beer is both powerful and luscious. When I walked into my family room with the glass and sat down, my wife could smell the beer from across the room. Delicious fragrance of chocolate, hazelnuts, coffee and roasted malt. The flavor, while solid, is very different from the aroma and is predominantly cigar tobacco with some roasted malt and minimal amounts of chocolate and coffee. A bit dry as the beer finishes. I’d love to try another one of these at some point to see if there is any variation among bottles. If this one had tasted as good as it smelled, this would have easily scored into my top ten. As it is, a very good beer nonetheless. vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 25, 2009 Well, this was wonderful. Pours very dark and stout like with a dense creamy soapy head that lasts. The aroma has roasted malt, rich chocolate, nougat and earthy spicy hops - excellent. Medium body that is luscious creamy and smooth with flowing soft carbonation. The flavor starts with roasted malt and some sweetness, chocolate, lush cream and some very dark berries. The finish has some complementary earthy / spicy hops giving it amazing balance. This is a fantastic porter. Uglyradio (776), Greenville, South Carolina, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 22, 2009 A very nice porter with chocolate, roasted malts and coffee. Smooth yet finishes dry. For a porter it sure is complex and flavorful. This is one of my favorite porters right up there with Edmund Fitzgerald from Great Lakes. ¾ (5006), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 21, 2009 Bottle. Intensely deep rich brown colored body with a medium sized dark tan head. Exceptionally dense nose of cocoa nibs, semi-sweet charred wood and plenty of roast and chocolate malt. Texture is medium-full with moderate frothiness. Somewhat dry chocolate/cocoa flavor with a turn to sweetness in the finish. Full of rich dark chocolate chips and roast with only a faint level of astringency. Amazingly drinkable and delicious. Porter rating #200. GodOfThunder (879), Orlando, Florida, USA
