Very rich and chocolate in smell and taste. Just an outstanding porter-- especially fresh on tap. mvcramer (229), Arlington, Massachusetts, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jan 31, 2009 Beautiful beer. I actually marked appearance down slightly, as I felt that it was a bit TOO dark... almost like an imperial stout. But, man, this is one hell of a beer. Aroma is all roasted malt. Excellent on the palate - roasted coffee and chocolate flavors balanced out nicely with just a touch of hops. I say "a touch" of hops, but this one has 45 IBUs! So there’s a whole lotta hops in there, which just speaks to how malty this one is! Great balance. milewide (609), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 30, 2009 12oz. bottle, with thank to alexsdad06. Pours a nice dark brown/black with a three finger creamy tan head, good retention and lacing. Aroma is a nice roast, with chocolate, light char, and espresso. Flavor is more of the same, with a "just right" roastiness throughout. A very nice Porter for sure, thanks again Brad. hellbilly (1532), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA

pours viscous and nearly black. no light gets through and there is no color change at the edges. it’s capped by a soft creamy purple tinted brown head.
the nose is full of green leafy hops, ash almost like spent charcoal (the real stuff), chocolate, roast, raisins and faint smoke.
the palate is malty and thick... a touch fudgey but in no way sweet. there’s lots of ash and roast present along with flavors of chocolate, scalded vanilla cream, pale molasses and a pleasant lactic sourness throughout. medium full bodied with lots of substance. it’s rich, creamy and smooth with the perfect carbonation yet almost parchingly dry and hoppy. i think it’s those differences in texture which keep it interesting...
it is missing some depth, complexity and development of flavors but it’s really effen good! i think i like how they shied away from the lux nutty, coffee and caramel characters and allowed the harsh bitter and dry stuff to come through! 8/5/8/5/18/4.4 BeerBunker (607), Burbank, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 29, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours black with a brown head. Moderate carbonation. Aroma is of roasted malt, chocolate, hops, and strong burnt coffee. Taste is burnt coffee, dark chocolate, malt, brown sugar, vanilla, and bitter hops. The coffee overpowers the other flavors at first, but then settles and everything comes through. Creamy mouthfeel without being to heavy. Drinks easy, and is worth the price. tronraner (1916), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 29, 2009 Bottle, thanks to NachlamSie for sharing. Pours black with tan head. The aroma is roast, charcoal, little bits of molasses, vanilla, and wood. The flavor is molasses with some ash and bitter chocolate. The finish is wood and vanilla with a little bit of walnut. The mouthfeel is rich and chewy... quite a good beer. NachlamSie (1637), Tennessee, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jan 29, 2009 bottle shared with Tronraner. Pours a really dark hue, near black, with nearly no head. The aroma is very roasty and bittersweet. I feel like I can almost chew the smell alone. Raisins, dark chocolate, earth, and faint hops. Man, this stuff is so chewy. Tons of chewy, earthy, dark fruits; dark chocolate. The finish is bittersweet and dry. This is super porter.
