The aroma is very roasty and bittersweet. I feel like I can almost chew the smell alone. Raisins, dark chocolate, earth, and faint hops. Man, this stuff is so chewy. Tons of chewy, earthy, dark fruits; dark chocolate. The finish is bittersweet and dry. This is super porter. dchmela (1451), Orlando, Florida, USA

Nice roasted grain and dark cherry aroma, not overpowering and very nice. Roasted grain, chocolate malt, coffee and dark fruit taste. Very nice light body with a hint of coffee in the finish. A stunningly good porter. jcr (1177), Jasper, Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jan 26, 2009 Bottle. Lots of flavor in this porter, but what makes it even better is the smooth, creamy body. Small tan head atop a deep, very dark brown-black body. Head diminished fairly quickly. The aroma is full of rosted malt, dark chocolate, black coffee and toffee. There are hints of floral hops, but only hints. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. But the finish revs up the bitterness to moderate leaving tastes of bitter chocolate, espresso with a hint of vanilla and molasses. The result is a nice balance between sweet and bitter. The finish is also dry, but avoids the metallic flavor found in many porters and stouts. Medium body with a creamy texture and low carbonation. This gets high marks on drinkability alone. Nicely done.

Pours pitch black with a thick chocolate head. Deep roasted grain aroma with the Founder’s house character. Great coffee/burnt flavor with quite a bit of bitterness. I could drink this stuff all day long! bigtaster (184), Grand Rapids, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 25, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours dark brown/black with a medium tan head. Aroma of roasted malts and dark chocolate. The flavor adds notes of coffee and a surprising hop bitterness. Amazingly smooth, creamy, and thin on the palate. Very drinkable. This is an amazing porter; the best I’ve ever had. Less than 10 bucks for a six-pack makes this a great value too. mattmc1973 (305), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 24, 2009 Picked up a six-pack today from Champane’s in Warren, MI for $7.99, quite a deal! Poured into a tulip glass, came out black as night with a rich tan head. Left a nice sticky lacing on the side of the glass. Aroma of dark bitter chocolate and roast coffee. Taste of espresso and chocolate. Rich and smooth mouthfeel, pretty creamy but thin enough to differentiate it from a stout. Great beer!
