The flavor contains the above elements, and also notes of chocolate. Nicely balanced by hops, although a bit less hoppy than most other porters. A bit stout-like, even. Excellent, creamy mouthfeel. One of the best porters that I’ve ever had. 00cobraR (1098), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 21, 2009 This thing was really good. Pours out a deep brown almost black color with a thin brown head. aroma was that of dark roasted malt, choco, and a bit of expresso. Flavor was very much the same with a nice hit of dryness to it. A fantastic brew. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 19, 2009 Bottle as an awesome bonus from ogglethorp. Thank you Brian! Pours a rich dark black with a medium lived tan head. Smell is roasty malt, coffee and is quite nutty as well. Taste is very richly roasted, dark bitter chocolate, roasted coffee beans, bitter charred malt, and just really nice. A pretty substantial amount of bitterness either from the hops or the charred malt. Body is medium to full with medium carbonation. Damn tasty and easily one of the best porters I’ve had. How is this not a stout, and why is it not a year round beer? EithCubes (2151), Indiana, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 19, 2009 Updated: Jan 22, 2009After three years of looking and waiting - finally a bottle! Lovely chocolate and roast nose, balanced and smooth, luscious creamy expectations. Love the thick, deep-throated malt. Pitch pour with a picture-perfect beige rocky head, lovely lacing and cloud formations. Fat body, dry and smooth and just all around pleasant (though a little worty).
More refined second bottle warrants the extra 0.4. Loads of sexual chocolate and surprisingly subtle roast. As solid as they come. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Jan 18, 2009 Bottle from Daniel. Glad we found this one. Pours out a dark brown color without much of a head on it at all. Smell is huge, very full bodied, plenty of coffee and chocolate in it. Some hops as well, but not very strong in that aspect. Flavor is very thick, almost dominated by coffee. Kind of is like breakfast stout but not as thick or with THAT much coffee. Really good porter, one of the better ones I have had really. Almost to the level of an imperial porter, but the ability to be able to session this beer leaves it in the normal porter category. WakeandBake (432), Greenville, Michigan, USA

A dark black color ,with some ruby tones if you hold it to a really strong light, thick lasting light brown head, with very nice lacing. Sweet aroma of coco powder, and fudge, very nice,a hint of the dark roasted barly as it warms.Flavor is awesome, like dark chocolate and good coffee in layers.A touch of the roast at the end ,and just slightly bitter. Medium body ,smooth creamy mouthfeel. The best Porter I have had to date and and maby the best beer. An honor to drink as review #200 Thank you Founders ! JPDIPSO (4923), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 18, 2009 Near black with a cascading pour. Tall, lasting, creamy, light brown head. Roasted and black malts mix with hints of grassy hops and cocoa. Pretty much how a porter should smell. Light toffee sweetness in the start. Middle is more acidic with the black malts taking charge. Some espresso and ashes. Light and smooth in feel. A nice return of base malt in the linger along with a touch of black malt bitterness. Strong flavored. Not one that I could sit with all night, but one here in there would be very enjoyable. jeff789 (410), Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jan 18, 2009 Pours black with a deep ruby glow allowing a bit of light through only at the edges with a very thin lingering tan head that leaves good lacing, gorgeous beer... Aromas of roasty malts, chocolate, coffee and subtle dark fruits(raisens, prune)... Taste continues the trend with a mildly creamy, roasty flavor with big notes of bitter chocolate and coffee... Very drinkable porter with a roasty lingering medium bodied finish... Overall, this is a lower ABV, less creamy version of breakfast stout... Awesome beer, easily in the top few porters i’ve ever had...
