Pours a gorgeous black color with just a tad bit of light coming through on the sides. Fairly thick tan head. Loads of roasty coffee aroma along with some sweet scented chocolate. Great roasted malt taste. Strong chocolate in the middle. Just the right amount of bittering at the finish. Velvety mouth feel. I could drink this all day. pantanap (1354), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 13, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours black with a medium tan head. Malty aroma with some coffee roastiness. Nice roasty flavor, but something was off about the aftertaste. I liked this one okay, but apparently not as much as everyone else does. inkubus27 (250), Highland, Indiana, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 13, 2009 Ok, this starts out pouring like an imperial stout, really thick, and dark with a deep tan head. The aroma is distinctly that of a porter, and a good one at that. First sip is fantastic! A full flavor from front to back, combining a very chocolately taste, with a thinner mouthfeel that I expected from the pour, and a moderate amount of hop flavor and bitterness rounds it all out. Overall this would be in my top 5 porters. tjthresh (1774), Greenfield, Indiana, USA
| 5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Jan 13, 2009 12 ounce bottle. Pour is pure fudge with an awesome dense brown head. The nose is rich with plenty of chocolate character, and back ground hop notes. Huge fudgey chocolate flavors with just enough hops to keep you interested. Full body and mouth coating. Roasted dry finish. Really a wonderful beer. Its my understanding that this is going to be a standard in the Founders lineup. This is a better world for it. JCB (1767), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 11, 2009 12oz bottle from emacgee - thanks, Ethan! A nice deep dark brown pour, with a lively 1-inch cafe au lait head. Lively carbonation like a lot of Founders brews, but nothing that detracts from the oily and appetizing qualities of the beer. Serious dark roasts and chocolate malts in the nose. It’s the kind of description that’s par for the course in a porter rating, but it doesn’t quite do justice to the way this brew just nails the style. Rich and thick, bitter dry finish, but with a complex hop profile that delivers it from mere chewiness. Delicious. fiver29 (723), Cleveland, Ohio, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 11, 2009 #400 and counting. Bottle pours pitch black with a tan head. Aromas of dark roasted malts and coffee. Has a medium heavy mouthfeel. Flavor is dark chocolate, dark roasted malt, coffee, and some slight hop flavor. This is a really nice brew. It has several dimensions of flavor that will most likely age well. Very smooth and creamy. DrHomolka (728), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 10, 2009 Bottle. Pours very dark for the style, pretty much pitch black with a dark brown head that doesn’t stick around long. This looks like an imperial stout. Aroma is huge coffee and chocolate. Did they just bottle the Breakfast stout in a new bottle? Yeah, huge chocolate, huge coffee, very nice. Not entirely complex smelling but delicous. A great aroma. Tastes the same as it smells. This beer is seriously just as good as the Breakfast stout. Slick, smooth, creamy body. This is remarkable, especially for the price. Maybe the best porter I’ve ever had, though it seems so rich and decadent I can’t even call it a porter. Great.
