Lots of chocolate as well as coffee and roast on the aroma. Flavor is rich milk chocolate along with roasted malt, coffee, and a little vanilla. Balanced, very flavorful, and awesome. Smooth, creamy palate with medium body. Drinkability pretty high. This beer rocks and Founders has really impressed me overall. MrPickles (121), Wisconsin, USA

The aroma is complex and I seem to get a little more with each whiff. Coffee starts things off, with brownies and sweet chocolate cutting through the deep roast of the brew. Taste is a mix of the same, but with an extra touch of nuts and vanilla and less of the brownies. Very creamy and full on the tongue. A very nice Porter if you are look for that style. soccer290 (138), Highland Park, Illinois, USA

Pours a nearly opaque black with a half finger high brown head that goes down slowly. Smells of delicious chocolate, hints of roasted coffee, some malt, and maybe a dash of hops. Truly a powerful and great smell. The taste is of malt, light smooth chocolate, the coffee kinda disappears, and the hops taste a little funky. I wish the hops weren’t there and the coffee smell came back. Goes down pretty well, but only medium-bodied. Still a very very good porter, but I would strongly recommend Ølfabrikken Porter instead. madvike (346), Madison, Wisconsin, USA

Smells of light coffee, milk, and cinammon. Tastes of light roast with a sour and milky finish. Aftertaste is coffee grounds in a good way. Feels like it looks -- creamy, medium/full-bodied, and smooth. Nice porter, but expected a little more. puggy211 (596), cordova, Tennessee, USA

Bold aggressive chocolate brownie with a slurp of coffee in your mouth flavor, satisfying bitterness in the finish. Seems like it wants to go slightly sweet ,but doesn’t get thereOne of the best porters I’ve ever tasted. I don’t see much room for improvement. | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 15, 2009 Yummmm! Killer beer! Poured with a thick, foamy, frothy, tan head that didn’t last too long and some lace. Color is an opaque brown. Aroma is rich, malty, roasty, chocolate, coffee, and vanilla. Flavor’s ’bout the same but more intense. Excellent body and carbonation. Finish is surprisingly clean & short for what’s here with just a little bitterness, ripe fruit, and leather. Sounds weird, but it works. Bit rich for a session. JMerritt (1323), Macomb, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 14, 2009 Sampled at 2009 Bruegala. Black with an average light-brown head. Good lacing. Average chocolate and roasted coffee nose, little of the burnt malt that was so prevalent in the previous Dark Horse Black. Nice, smooth roasty flavor with mild grain notes (rye and wheat). Medium bodied and really darn sticky. Solid. Tejas (704), Dallas, Texas, USA

Great palate that some stouts could learn from. Good interesting variety of flavors. From little fruity to roasty to coffee to chocolate. Not overdone w/ bitter hops. Shit, I wish I could get this regualrily.
