Aroma has a light burnt note but a heavy chocolate, coffee and toasted malt nose. Flavor has lots of roasted malt notes, chocolate, coffee and a light acidic, dryness to it. Modest body, with a thin sticky feeling and very low carbonation. All of this combines to make a very tasty porter and one that I will make sure is hanging around my house a bit. Very good and well balanced and really epitomizes the style. bblack99 (216), Kansas City, Missouri, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 9, 2009 Bottle pours a pure opaque black with a perfect chocolate-milk dense head that dissipates quickly but laces beautifully.
Smells of dark chocolate, tiny twist of coffee, and toffee. Great flavor of roasted almonds, toffee chips with some hoppy bite up front, bitter coffee near the end. Chocolaty malts throughout and a bit of an astringent alcohol twinge at the very back.
Very good, deserving of a spot next to Olfab, but I’d need to re-rate side-by-side to see if it can truly hang. ewestern (198), Ohio, USA

Nose is full toffee with a mild whiff of Danish dirt. Flavor is more of that with creamy chocolate butter and roast. Among the greats of Porter. tekhna (118), California, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 3, 2009 Bottle at Pinhook. Pours a black hue with quickly dissipating head and no lacing. Nose is roasty sweet malt goodness with big dark chocolate presence. Flavor hits the palate with a choco-hammer followed by a touch of roast and lightly bitter hops for balance, followed by a milky sweet malt finish. Full-bodied with velvety texture, a great specimen of rich Porter flavor and balance, another megahit from Founders! raindog (559), Evansville, Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 3, 2009 Updated: Sep 28, 2009Room Temp: Black pour. Big tightly, beaded head with a lovely creamy foam atop. Clingy lace. Great aroma of a mixture of roast and hops with underlying cocoa and vanilla. Light, oily texture. Very creamy. Upfront a good mixture of chocolate malt and hops. Tasteful roastiness, and more slick malts follow. Finsih is sweet, with roasty notes, then lingering hop, chocolate, mocha, notes. Little under mid glass this has lost a little body. Overall though,a great mixture of hop, chocolate, and mocha flavors. Spotty lace all over the empty glass. Tasty stuff. tmohr (25), Illinois, USA
