Dark, Rich, and Sexy. Chocolate malts and four varieties of hops make this a very full flavored ale.

Pours a thick black with a medium brown head. Medium body with low carbonation levels. Roasty chocolate aroma with hints of smoke and vanilla. Flavor is very roasty with prominant chocolate flavors and hints of malts, coffee, caramel, and nuts. Good bite on the finish. Probably my favorite stout.

pitch black pour with nice lacing khaki head. The aroma and flavor are equally impressive. Solid vanilla, dark bitter chocolate, roasted malt, tobacco, a bit of dark fruit, and a pleasant and balancing hop presence on the finish. Medium to full body. Overall: $11 is a bit steep for a 6er normally, but this is worth it, no problem.

Pours nearly black with a thick dark tan head and great lacing. Wonderful aroma that is a blend of smoke, molasses, chocolate, and alcohol. Each of these are very prevalent in the flavor, but well balanced by a nice bitterness. Great Porter, might even be my favorite. Founders does it again.

Bottle. Pours thick, near black color with a very small light brown head. Smokey aroma, with dark chocolate, vanilla and coffee also present. Heavy roasted flavor with hints of coffee and cocoa. Bitter finish with a slight trace of alcohol warmth. While it is medium-full in body, its not as heavy as the appearance would lead you to believe. Well carbonated with a creamy texture. Very solid porter.

12oz bottle. This is perhaps the best porter I have tasted. It is similar in taste to an impy stout but without all the crazy alcohol. Pours dark black with a tan head and nice lacing. Packed with lots of malt and smoky goodness. Delicious.

Thick jet black pour with a small tan head. Wonderful roasty aroma, chocolate, coffee and a bit of alcohol. Nice creamy palate, semi-sweet chocolate flavor and a little bitterness from the right amount of hops. Absolutely fantastic porter, my favorite so far.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Wine and Beer Westpark, 12/10/09

Aroma: Aroma is strong on roasted malts, coffee, and chocolate
Appearance: Pours a thick, dark brown color with a light brown head
Flavor: Flavor is roasted malts with a bit of earthy hops
Palate: The body is medium-full, thick, with soft carbonation
Overall Impression: Overall this is a pretty good Porter. It has the thick, dark pour of a heavy stout. It’s pretty much what you would have expected from the style with its massive malt nose that leads to a massive malt (with a little hop) flavor. Still though, it is pretty good, and certainly enjoyable, another nice beer from Founders.

Bottle. Stout-like black with a foamy medium-dark tan head, with good retention. Nose of some dry malt, maybe a little hops. Flavor sweet up front and chocolaty, with maybe a tiny hint of coffee-like bitterness. Definitely let this one breathe a bit after pouring, because at first it had a somewhat acrid bitter flavor. It becomes fairly smooth and clean, but the bitter flavor doesn’t really leave the aftertaste. Good porter, but not as fully dimensional as Black Butte, which is my standby porter. I suppose this is more of a British style porter, though, rather than a robust one.

Pours a black brown with a half a finger of dark beige head. Dark rich odor of chocolate and some toast. Great flavor, starts off soft and builds steadily. Hints of Caramel, vanilla, and chocolate, and ends with a nice burnt toast aftertaste. This is a really solid porter
