12 oz bottle. Pours a dark viscous black with a thick creamy tan head. Aroma is an excellent blend of roasted malts and chocolate with a light smokiness and some burnt toast and rich and sharp dark malt crispness. Flavor has a robust chocolate and creamy burnt sugar character and coffee bitterness. Nice bitter finish but not astringent or harsh, just pleasant and much like the bitterness in dark chocolate. Medium full body and a soft carbonation. Excellent porter.

From a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours with an inch of gray/brown head which dissipates quickly leaving a decent amount of lacing. Aroma is of dark coffee. Taste is of hard core coffee and chocolate. Kinda that taste of over roasted Starbucks coffee. Chocolate is also very prevalent. Mouthfeel is very thick, almost bordering on a stout (but hey, what’s the difference). Overall, this really is the stepson of Founders Breakfast stout, but without the chocolate flavor. I very much liked this beer although it was on the thick side for a porter. The flavor was also too biased towards coffee and without any other flavors. I would happily drink again.

Bottle. Pours black with a decent tan head. Aromas of chocolate, coffee and nuts. Full bodied with mildly creamy carbonation. Flavors of chocolate, hazel nuts, and vanilla? Neither sweet nor bitter. Really good finish of coffee/chocolate. Quite tasty.

While I am somewhat knew at beer tasting, so far this is my favorite beer. Stouts and Porters are my favorite types though. Full bodied porter with smoky flavor and somewhat dry with a nice but not overwhelming bitterness to it. Very nice dark color. A great beer overall and now I can’t wait to taste the Founder’s Breakfast Stout this weekend and find out what all the raving is about.

Bottle: Falkenstein brought it from MO; a solid Porter, but my preferred style. Food Pairing: Pastel Chocolate Tóxico from Chef Andre.

Deep brown almost black with tan head and lace. Aroma of toasted malt and coffee. Chocolate, medium coffee, with a nice malt bitter. Medium/full bodied with good carbonation, and a hint of thin.

Opaque black body topped by a massive creamy khaki colored head that leaves some lovely lacing all the way down the glass. Rich aroma of roasted barley cocoa powder and espresso. Bitter dark chocolate with undertones of licorice, and roasted coffee flavors. Full bodied with a smooth and creamy texture. Very well done.
