| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 2, 2009 12 oz. bottle from Busch’s grocery store in Novi, MI. This stuff is great. It’s basically a great IPA with an amazing hop aroma and flavor, but with some sweet caramel malts on the finish. Quite possibly my new favorite home state beer. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 29, 2009 Bottle. Pours ruby red with a small head. Aroma is very floral, with sharp citrus and grapefruit. Flavor starts with spicy rye and caramel amber, with perfect amount of hopping. Just a well constructed offering from Founders. Finish is long, hoppy, and spicy. This has got to be my favorite rye pa to date. craftbeerdesign (744), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 26, 2009 bottle. Poured into a Delirium snifter... really nice appearance... dark red with a decent size off white head. Wonderful floral hop aroma with a touch of rye. I didn’t really know what to expect from this one, but it really is a pleasure to drink. The body is pretty full with a huge hop presence up front as well as through the finish. The dry hopping really shines through on the tip of the tongue at the finish. There is some definite rye over the top of the palate as well with some lighter fruits and citrus notes towards the bottom. Excellent finish - nice and bitter with some spice and rye up front that give it a bit of a kick. True quality here. madvike (314), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Mar 25, 2009 Bottle - Pour deep copper with a frothy, bubbly head. This looks like a beer I want to drink. The nose is nice too--lots of citrusy hops, balanced by some grain and malt in the background. The taste just doesn’t do it for me. There’s not much flavor until the hops bite the back of your tongue. The finish is really dry, as the rye and malt make me feel like all the water has been sucked out of my mouth. The aftertaste is pretty pleasant, with some sweet malt and hops lingering for awhile. It’s refreshing, but just so dry. Love the mouthfeel though--it’s rich, creamy, and smooth. I thought it would be much lighter. Decent beer, but the dry rye taste just doesn’t do it for me. MaltDawg (778), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 25, 2009 Floral citrus hop aroma with some sweet tea like notes. Clear, slight haze, deep amber golden/copper. Grassy floral hop flavor dominates along with caramel maltyness. Medium almost full mouthfeel. Finish is moderately sweet with moderate residual bitterness. Excellent beer. FlssmrBrewAlum (1109), Lisle, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 24, 2009 12 oz bottle courtesy of the Binnys Singles Rack (Orland Park, IL) or Three Cellars (Franklin, WI). I do no remember. Pours a deep dark prominent orangey copperwith touches of brown and a moderate whitish thick head that looks like it won’t go completely away. Good retention, good lacing. Aromas are prevalent with a big rye malt feel, dominant, with light spice, subtle fruit, but largely rye bread. Initial has a good body, with lighter (But not light) rye malts, bready and biscuity qualities, with a touch of fruity sweetness mixed in and lighter hoppy bitterness balancing on the backend. This brew is tasty and flavorful, but not overbearing, preferring to stay sessionable, quaffable, and lighter on the palate and a typical malty 7% brew. This is really quite good, a change of pace, and a has a good rye dominance, with bread, fruity sweetness, and a nice crisp hop bite on the finish with a touch of spice. Very nice. Cheers!
