Commercial Description:
Pours a spectacular crimson red with a creamy tan head. Brewed with four varieties of Belgian caramel malts imparting a sweet richness. Reds Rye is impressively balanced with its hop bitterness and floral bouquet achieved from the dry hop. In the finish, the generous amount of malted rye used accentuates a spicy crisp finish.

Nice looking beer. Thin head sitting on top of a lovely mostly orange, but slight brown in color. The head doesn’t last long, but still a fine looking beer. There is a very pungent hop profile. The hops are very pungent and easy to smell. If I didn’t have half a sense I would say that this is an IPA. Nice malt balance in the aroma. Aroma is complex and lovely. Very thin palate with a lot of hops. A lot of the floural hops coming out. A sweet malt flavor ties in well with the hops. You get that caramel sweet flavor at first and then the hops take over leaving a slightly dry hop finish. Overall, decent beer with some great flavors.

12oz bottle. Pours a murky, dark red copperish body with a small, white, fizzy head that dissipates quickly and remains nicely laced. Actually leaves layers of thick lacing after each sip. Quite sexy. I am also absolutely in love with this aroma. Loaded with perfume-like fruity hops. It shoots out at me from an armslength away. Lots of grainy, spicy rye bread malts and lucious, grassy fruits. Raspberry, lemon, peach, apples, and pineapples. Intense and complex aroma. I am ready to wed this bouquet of a fragrance. Flavor is not as exceptional as the aroma, but still very nice. Lots of grassy hops from beginning to end and a good amount of caramel malts. Big, but soft rye bread taste with a floral yeastiness. Very rich and multi-grainy in the finish with a nice citrus and apple linger. Palate is medium bodied and dry. Overall, a very impressive beer. One of my favorite smelling beers of all time. Great flavor to go along with it too. I love the hoppy rye with a touch of caramel. $9.99 for a six pack!!! Thanks Ceebs25 for the recommendation!

Bottle. I love a red with bitterness. Hoppy red brew with citrus flavors and moderate bitterness. More like a pale than a red. Not malty or sweet. Dry.

Bottle. Aroma of perfumy and tropical fruit hops, brown sugar, fresh rye, caramel malt. Flavor of sweet, rye malt with spicy accents and a good heap of bitterness. Lots of sweetness from the rye, but the bitterness hangs on right through to the finish. Really nice all around.

From the tap a cloudy dark copper-amber, with a nice eggshell ring that leaves lace down the glass. The nose has lots of orange peel, citrus, zest and rye hues surrounding. Nice malty dry flavors, crisp bold backing bitters, a hint of citrus peel/zest, some copper. Great integration with the rye tone, it provides a creamy mouthfeel that mixes with a hint of alcohol astringency and a nice bitter finish (lingering). Very well put together, and a fantastic tap quencher!

Bottle from a trip to the East Coast. The bottle bolted on me and was very over carbonated. The aroma was light hops and a bit of rye. The flavor was very crisp and dry, and I could only slightly detect the rye. Still was okay though, might been a bad bottle now that I read the other reviews here.

12oz bottle. Beautiful amber-red pour with a thick creamy head. Aroma of hops with lots of grapefruit, apricot, some malt sweetness and pine. The grapefruit comes through in the flavor as well, along with bitter hops, sweet malts, and a pinch of rye spiciness. Palate is medium bodied and thin. Easy to drink and refreshing. Although the alcohol might be a little high, this would make a nice session beer. Another excellent beer from Founders.
